Our future president says we need to shut down the virus, not the economy.

Do you agree there should be no national shutdown?

national shutdown was never a possibility.

the whole point of a competent president in a situation like this is to act as a coordinator of funds and information. neither of which trump did...

That's not true. He's not going to undercut the medical community by spreading blatant lies the way Trump has.

Let me say this? Do you want more people in streets protesting this and cops do nothing, but support them? Do you honestly think a bunch of milita.. no domestic terrorist aren't going to use this excuse to cause terror? If this country actually gave a crap then we would've done so no problem, but no. We are not.

Freedom is the god of this country for a majority of the population. I would like a shut down, but realistically it's not going to happen.

we absolutely need to, but he doesn't have the authority to do more than strong suggestions. I'm not even sure Mitch and Nancy can do much to force a shutdown, only compensate us for doing so. This failure is on the Governors.

As I've warned many many times, Biden is an absolute corporate whore. Perhaps the biggest of them all. He is beholden to the same rich donors as the Republicans. He was never on our side.

Those rich donors are more than happy to sacrifice us for their profit. So of course Biden is too.

let me rephrase. This failure is on all of us. The selfish and the stupid. But only the Governors have the power to be punitive here.

National shutdown is not possible in the US because most americans are whiny, spoilt children who will throw tantrums if they are every told no.

This is absolutely true. If we were truly united as a nation and had a less stubborn population, we could have done a better job back in April with the shutdowns. Instead we got months of protests, rallies, temper tantrums and unnecessary parties because people really don't give a fuck about anyone other than themselves.

I would love for the topic of job security while an individual quarantines to be discussed with our leaders. People are obligated to go to work while fighting the virus because they need to pay their bills. It's either risk your job by nursing your sickness or just hope you don't cause a big spread for many people.

SSSHHH. don't tell people that or they might think the economy is important too.

While this is probably Biden waffling, we aren't prepared for lockdowns. We half assed things the first time leaving a lot of questionably essential business open and weren't firm on an endgame, so support for the idea died when "2 weeks to stop the spread" became 2 months and climbing, and people started treating things like panicky bullshit from hypochondriacs. Businesses died, and a few industries are on the way out, but can't open up, and can't give money to businesses because business is evil and Trump would be a hero.

Another round, one planned to be longer, couldn't just be casually expected on the fly like March's. Planning would be needed. All non essentials get shut down, and by essential, I mean if you don't have relief staff for Christmas, you probably aren't. Because of that, food needs to be stockpiled, and hording needs to be prevented, so probably a ration book system. Homeless would need care (I'm sure many warm hearted liberals will take them in for a couple of months) Financial arrangements would need to be made for any bill you can't cut (landlords may be one thing, but you can't expect utilities to provide free power, water, and sanitation for long.) Citizens get a couple of weeks to get their shit in order, be it stockpiling non essentials or just moving in with friends or family so you don't have to be alone or need special care. Then zero tolerance, as in, you only get out of your house if it's on fire or similar life or death emergency.

I'm being a bit over the top, but I'm not sure if people have thought through the full extent of the lockdown they want, or are thinking we'll get away with grocery stores and weed outlets being open this time. If Fauchi is thinking as harsh as possible, Biden may be trying to avoid it as much as Trump was.
