Which do you prefer?

Obviously these films are both amazing for VERY different reasons, but if you had to pick, which movie do you like better?

I've seen both films twice in the theaters. I prefer The Thing.

The thing edges this one out a bit simply because of Russell's glorious beard and hair

Pretty much the same boat for me; I think both of those movies are basically perfect and are the shining examples of how good sci-fi horror can be. That said, The Thing is a movie I can watch over and over again, and while I love Alien, I don't find myself going back to it nearly as often as I do The Thing.

Alien by a longshot.
I liked The Thing as a kid - but I re-watched it recently and I don't get its hype. I get that its practical effects are good - but they're not so ridiculously far ahead of other films from the '80s as people pretend. Slime City, The Re-Animator, The Toxic Avenger, Bad Taste, Street Trash, etc. all had gore and special effects that were just as cool/well done.

Alien is my second favorite movie of all time. I think it's a better pure horror movie.

I feel like The Thing is this board accumulated favorite movie. I add to that, as it's also mine.

Alien is seriously one of the most atmospherically perfect films ever.

I prefer The Thing and it isn't close. I actually just re-watched Alien this October. I didn't like it anymore than I did years ago. It has never been one of my favorites, and I am actually a huge fan of isolation style movies.

The Thing with me by a lot. It's one of those movies that I'll happily watch over & over.

Alien is good, but I've never really loved it that much.

Definitely The Thing, but only by just a hair.

Taken as singular movies, they're pretty close, but I still give the edge to Alien.

The gap gets wider when you consider the universe that Alien spawned. Like it or not, it's iconic.

I voted Alien.

Come to think of it, I've been meaning to watch it again, but despite the last viewing being when I was a teen, I feel like I still retain too much knowledge of the movie to truly enjoy it. I know precisely how it goes, who dies and when, and how it ends. There's no real suspense or thrills. All I'd feel watching it is a weird sense of sadness.
I wish I could temporariyl wipe my memories of Alien so I could enjoy it like an unaware first-time viewer.
