Zestiria is probably one of the worst in the series. People only like Berseria because Velvet is hot.

Simply that there isn't much to it. Your decision making matters little, and there's almost nothing beyond the stock standard RPG block/switch/resetting path puzzles. The story is basic, character designs are average... It's just extremely generic outside of the instanced realtime combat, which was rare at the time.

This describes literally every JRPG that isn't Persona or SMT

Yes. Vesperia has much more depth when it comes to it's character variety and combat. The game isn't nearly as mash friendly as Symphonia either due to longer attack recovery times, so you're either going to have to Manual Cancel well or learn when to attack, bait enemies, guard, evade via free run and jumping to play the game well.

Nah. Abyss is barely deeper than Symphonia is, and in a few gameplay aspects it's actually inferior to it.

Dragon Quest 3 had a bunch of little neat shit, in addition to a great minigame and unorthodox events, like becoming king, getting magic to shapeshift that affects a surprising number of interactions, the memory spells trying into the plot, bunch of optional content that had clever interactions. If you tried to avoid grinding, you actually had to try in battles.

With Symphonia, you kinda just mashed whatever resulted in the strongest hits, because, since 3/4s of your squad is under AI control at all times aside from the big combo spells, your decisions are limited.

Well I mean I kinda remember the story and kinda liked it, and the characters and art. You could have a different date like in ff7! I definitely did hate the 'puzzles'

I just thought he meant the combat which I assume is outdated

Vespiria has very poor characters and story, contrary to Symphonia.

Berseria has an updated combat system. I didn't play Graces F so I'm not sure if it follows the standard HP/MP route or if it scrapped MP for the new system that Berseria uses

Berseria also has my favorite story in the entire series. And Magilou. It has Magilou.

Only ever played Berseria and Vesperia, but I'd recommend both.
Vesperia has better variety in combat, but breaking the game as Velvet in Berseria is also satisfying!

So long as you don't get Zestiria, you should be good

But yes, I recommend Vesperia and Berseria

I don't know, I actually liked the subversion on the "chosen one" trope when they reach tethe'alla, it's still pretty cliched when it comes to the anime tropes though.
