At first I wasn't that suspicious of the doubters but after so many posts I am starting to wonder why people seem to care so much.

I agree with some of what people in here are saying but theyre really not seeing the bigger, more important picture. Pearce is an external hire, it makes ya think of a lead position was available so freely if there are wider problems at Sony. Thats a huge leap and assumption though. Lets pretend everything is okay and Pearce was qualified for the role. Okay I feel it but the internal group might feel slighted or cheated that it happened this way, what makes it worse is that it was on the news for everyone to see. Thats not healthy at all.

She's become a bit more known through her Cyberpunk 2077 coverage, and people have created a bit of drama around her in relation to that (due to jealousy and her being a woman I guess). I seem to remember some were alleging that she was getting Cyberpunk merchandise in response for positive coverage (along with the usual claims of attention seeking and not being a "real" gamer that female gaming personalities often get), and some of the same people are possibly responsible for whipping up this latest drama. You know what it's like: a few obsessives can be the loudest voices.

She's not the lead writer, just part of their writing team.

As someone who works in a creative industry, actual experience with particular genres/sub fields and shit is all well and good but a lot of whether you get work is dependent on your relationships, work ethic, and personality

Where are you getting all this? In what way is "video game writer" a lead position?

I think he's extrapolating based on the fact she mentioned god of war and said she'll be working directly on the games' (whatever games they are) stories

I wouldn't assume lead based on that though

It's not, she's already said in a YT video it's a junior position writer. It's not like she's writing the story to an entire game.
