In a literally hostile environment surrounded by gabbing Karens intent of having me fail, I could see myself tripping up.

draw five circles that one common interlocking part

even without the missing word I'm struggling to imagine whether they mean like 5 in a row like the olympics or 5 in a circle around one point, because the latter has more than one overlap

My interpretation is to draw five circles of different sizes inside each other so they only touch at one point. But it doesnt really matter because this test was designed to fail you no matter what answers you put.

It says around so I assumed it meant circle, not underlining it. I'm pretty sure its a gotcha question though. If you underline it, they meant circle. If you circle it, they meant for you to draw a straight line.

I'm pretty sure its a gotcha question. If you underline it, they meant circle. If you circle it, they meant for you to draw a straight line. And some people just won't be sure about what they wanted at all.

The beauty of these types of tests is if the person who grades them gets the answer wrong, boom, the person who took the test failed anyways.

AKA they'll always be able to do that to ensure failure to anyone they want. Like, say, any person of color.

Civil Rights website says this:

NOTE that at one time we also displayed a "brain-twister" type literacy test that may have been used during the summer of 1964 in Tangipahoa Parish and possibly elsewhere in Louisiana. We removed it from this website because it was not representative of the Louisiana tests in broad use during the 1950s and '60s.

My family is from southern Louisiana, they made my grandfather take a literacy test.

This is why the Voting Rights Act is so important. We have judges and Republicans wanting to peck away at it though.

Tests are designed to evaluate specific responses. That test is designed to fail the test-taker.

Fun research finding: the more fact-knowledgeable the test-taker the worse their performance in "general knowledge" tests.
