Idk what happened to Ubisoft but AC Valhalla looks like absolute turd. Even AC2 looks like it has better graphics now.

CoD Black Ops CW is well, literally the same graphics as Black Ops 1 a decade ago. BF3 still has better graphics. Crazy huh

And yes, even Cyberpunk looks pretty meh. I think the devs had to sacrifice some graphical quality for the sake of the massive open world.

Spider-man MM is the olny one that looks great. But then again it has almost no graphical diff to that of Spider-man 1.

It's like NOTHING has changed at all. So like...why even buy a next gen console?

Really hard to tell nowadays how much better graphics are. Seems people are now more impressed by load times and haptic feedback on controllers. Especially true with PC games, as a handful of games are used to benchmark everything from gpu released 3 years ago to bleeding edge cpus and framerates are all that matters.

I'm not interested in graphical quality so much as framerate these days.

Who cares about shadows, reflections, and bloom when it all looks like a slide show?

For the framerates honestly. I'm not a PC gamer, so the fps that we currently get with the next gen consoles feels pretty great, and the PS4 games that has unlocked framerates is now easily reaching 60fps when played via BC. Playing stuff like one piece pirate warriors 3, earth defense force 5, monster hunter world and sekiro with 60fps is awesome. Personally, I can take or leave stuff like ray tracing, so I hope they keep resolution and performance options throughout the entirety of the next console generation...let people who prefer the 4K raytacing 30fps option do their thing, and those of us that is fine with upscaled 4K/1080p with minor or no raytracing and a smooth locked-in 60fps do our thing.

I think we are at that point where we are starting to get diminishing returns for the games that go for the "realistic" approach in graphics. For now, improving HDR (which means buying a TV capable of displaying great HDR or else you are missing out) and going for unique art styles (like that dead of the west indie game...I would like to imagine a PS5 or xbox series X game created with this type of art style in mind would look amazing) while maintaining 60fps would probably be the most impressive stuff out of the next console generation.

I'm pretty sure we've reached the pinnacle of graphics at this juncture. Now it just depends on devs on how far they want to take it.
devs like Activision and Ubisoft don't seem intent in changing their s****ty graphics ever so what's the point

Well to be fair graphical fidelity isn't the only thing that can be improved. The number of objects being rendered at a time, the speed at which textures are rendered in as you approach them, new controller schemes, framerate, etc.

I'm a PC guy but the console market isn't going away anytime soon. The endgame is that consoles will resemble PCs in all but name, and we're not at that point yet.

Well youre looking at games that were made with last gen in mind. Demons Souls is a better example of the future to come

Also as others have said the real improvements are in rendering and load times. Usually in a Soulsborne game it takes a minute or two after death to reload. DeS remake is a matter of seconds
