Not entirely but everything will be a thousand times less cool because yakuza is a very self referential series. The devs claim its a good jumping in point but thats just marketing bs, it is not

if youre looking to start the series try yakuza 0.

Not really. It will reference past games and characters but story wise it's basically a stand-alone.

I'm in chapter 5 and besides one small off-hand reference to Yakuza 1, I haven't seen anything you'd miss out on. Maybe you might be a little lost on the Tojo-clan stuff, but I think the game does a good enough job of going over it on its own.

i would honestly keep going in order. yakuza 6 and 7 are like love letters to the series, even if you can work out the story i think you'll be missing out on a lot unless you just really wanna play 7 and dont care

I play on PC so i only have access to kiwami 1 and 2 i believe :/

Like I wouldn't recommend people playing seven games in a series to catch up even if they were like 10 hours long, and each Yakuza is 40 plus.
