Because if there are no teachers watching over you, basically every test is an open-book, open-note test. I don't see how they can stop you from googling any answer you want and/or collaborating with friends. Even if you're out of school right now, maybe you know somebody who's still in school. Do they just go by the honor system, and everybody gets inflated grades?

The same as in any other actual test? They have teachers watching the students take it and if you take your phone out you get thrown out and a 0 on your test?

Like, they figured this out decades ago.

Unless you mean during covid, then no idea. Probably postpone and going by predicted?

I make my tests on google forms. They have an option to lock the computers from opening new tabs. If they try to it closes the test and It alerts me.

Now it works because it's elementary. It would be harder in HS when the kids have phones I imagine.
What about switching tabs what about having two windows open, one with the test and one that's on google looking up the answers?

The more strict schools/software has you use a mirror behind you or have you use your phone as another device for a proctor to see your hand and desk area

There are multiple ways. Schools generally use one or more of these strategies:
- Webcam software that watches you take the test
- Locking software that prevents you from opening other tabs or browsers
- Each question is timed so you wouldn't have enough time to look up the answer anyways
- Problem solving questions that have you show your work; much harder to find answers
- Auto-generated problems that insert random numbers or variables, making it impossible to find the answer online
- Design the test to be open book from the beginning, so you are expected to look up the answer, but the questions are worded in such a way that you need to know what you are doing to even know where to look/what to look for.
- Avoid tests altogether and assign papers

I have done many of these as a professor except the first two.

Set a time limit. If someone is constantly looking up answers, it will take up more time.
