Not anytime soon, but we made some really large strides over a very short time in human history. Who knows where our tech will be in 10,000 years.

It's not happening in any of our lifetimes.

It's not actually making a planet habitable for generations after we die.

Such a project would take centuries or millenia I feel. And won't be started for centuries from now.

Probably not. If it was possible, wouldnt we be able to reverse the damage we are doing to the Earth?

think about it like this:

at least when europeans discovered the new world, there were supplies there to use
if we were going to colonize and terraform a planet, we have to bring EVERYTHING WE NEED with us there in complete entirety
we haven't shipped much of anything anywhere in space before at all on that scale

If we manage to build an extraterrestrial colony somewhere which eventually becomes independent from Earth for its survival, it's a start.
Then firstly humanity will have a back-up if something were to happen to one of the two. Secondly, assuming both groups of humans keep surviving and exploring, they'll eventually settle somewhere else and the process can continue and grow exponentially.

At the moment however, a lot of people are still pretty sceptical of whether it can be done at all. The trick is to actually manage to create a settlement outside of Earth. The a lot more people will come to realize the possibilities and start to feel more confident about humanity's chances to expand beyond Earth.

Personally, I think the company SpaceX has the right idea: create an economically viable way to travel to and through space, reignite humanity's interest in space travel, and aim to create a self-sustainable colony on another planet.

One thing is for sure: if we all stay here on Earth, one way or another all of humanity will die here on Earth. Some people will proabably be at peace with that, but I assume that a lot of people will do whatever it takes to continue existing for as long as possible as a species.

What about if a planet replicates the conditions that made earth? with the whole volcanic eruptions and creating an atmosphere and land and ocean.

Considering the size of the known universe and the amount of planets and stars there are: yes, it is plausible that there are at least a few planets like that, but the chances of one being relatively nearby Earth is highly unlikely.

If inhabiting another world is going to happen, it's gonna be through terraforming.
