UnfairRepresent 11/10/20 8:06:18 PM #1:	A woman who was allegedly fired for being a lesbian has won in an election against her old boss and taken his job. Charmaine McGuffey was elected to be Sheriff of Hamilton, County Ohio on Wednesday, defeating her Republican opponent Bruce Hoffbauer. When she ran in the Democratic primary, she went against her former boss, Jim Neil, who allegedly fired McGuffey because she is a lesbian. The current sheriff and I got into a pretty serious disagreement about the practice of him not holding officers accountable for use of force and harassment of women, female officers, and female inmates, McGuffey told LGBTQ Nation. He fired me. So after about a year or so of contemplating, I decided I can do a better job than him. Neil ran as a Democrat, but confused many voters with his politics, and was even spotted at a Donald Trump rally. My opponent has pretended to be a Democrat for many years now, when hes actually much more aligned with the Tea Party Republicans, McGuffey said. He tells people what they want to hear and then doesnt follow through. She ended up taking the nomination over Neil with 70% of the vote, and later defeated Hoffbauer with 52% of the vote. McGuffey was proud of her identity when running, while promising responsibility and accountability with people of color. (My election) would mean that our country is moving forward, she said. That we really have moved away from the 1950s model of law enforcement, where not just women are embraced in the law enforcement world, but also LGBTQ members of the community can wear a uniform and be quite successful. There have been multiple LGBTQ+ lawmakers elected to office during the 2020 election. Delaware elected its first transgender state senator and two black and gay men were elected to office in New York.
