Mediating is not the same as meditating. Regardless, meditation has been studied fairly thoroughly. While it does appear to have many beneficial results, including improving the quality of sleep, using it as a replacement for sleep is actually detrimental to your health.

Auto correct typo, ugh.

I'll argue that being completely unaware of your surroundings in a dream state, opposed to consciously resisting external stimuli, attempting to align all of your being with something not explainable but connected, is less restful.

I'll work from 7am until 9pm tomorrow without ever being tired.

I mean, you could argue that, but you're wrong. REM sleep is important to healthy functioning. Refusing to let your body enter that state will catch up with you at some point.

REM was introduced in 1953. What happens in true practitioners of meditation has existed since before the current calender.

I can agree with this. Though I would say it's spiritual. To imply it's quantum also implies true enlightenment to me. Which I don't believe any person can achieve while existing in any physical form.

All physical forms are quantum. Quantum is a perspective. Understand how even minute interactions have major effects.
