If we had a single national popular vote for president, the federal government would be in charge of administering the vote and counting the ballots, which would make it easier for a wannabe dictator to steal the election. Instead, Trump can complain but he really has no control over the vote counting, since the states do it all.

nothing. there are witnesses from both parties in the voting count rooms to ensure nothing shady happens.

you're welcome to watch the livestream of the count in philadelphia if you like but i doubt you'd find it particularly exciting

Popular vote doesn't mean the federal government would be in charge of administering the vote or counting the ballots. The states could absolutely still run their own elections with a popular vote system.
