I remember as a kid being confused as to why we used some weird roundabout way of determining elections instead of just going by who got the most votes.

I remember the class asking why they don't just accept the popular vote and the teacher not being able to give an answer that wasn't based on the logistics of the 1700s.

It was taught to me as being a good thing because it prevents places like California from deciding all of our elections or something.
But clearly, using that logic, its now flipped to the swing states deciding the elections instead. So I dont see the point in it. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

growing up with a conservative family i was always told it was brilliant and the forefathers were genius in implementing it. mob rule bad basically. didnt take me long as an adult to unwind that.

It was always presented more as vestige that typically didn't affect things today. It had been 100 years give or take since the last time it had happened when I learned about it.

the liberals have standard issue boxing gloves the republicans are given brass knuckles sure its still possible for the liberals to win. but its much harder for them even though they are the more popular party basically america wants democrats in power as seen by the popular vote but the electoral college gives the minority rule --- yusketeer ... I asked my teacher to explain why this existed, and the explanation as to why this was implemented was more confusing than anything Biden or Trump attempted to utter during any of the debates.
