Even its soundtrack is unique, it's not "under the sea" repeated ad nauseam like little mermaid world or "bibity bopity boo" like cinderella world.

That one's pretty good, but is it really better than Halloween Town and Christmas Town combined?

Halloween Town literally "this is halloween" on repeat forever...

Don't get me wrong I love it, and even christmas town is aight. But facts are facts

off the top of my head the only worlds in KH2 I like are Twilight Town and The World That Never was. Though Beast's Castle is also decent.

I really didn't like the boss in Beast's castle though. I remember feeling like there were attacks that were unavoidable, then Mickey came in and saved the day. I might have just been bad though.

Oh, were there reflectable attacks that I missed? Makes sense. This was so long ago though, that I just vaguely remember some big sweeping beam attack that I couldn't avoid. I probably didn't even think about reflecting.

If we're talking about the Xaldin fight, yeah, use can power thru most attacks with just Reflect. But I think his big sweeping laser can just be dashed through with the right timing.

I never could figure out the big laser, but I was generally able to survive because it didn't do much damage, even on proud. So I'd just heal constantly and play it safe when he's doing everything except the lasers.

I think you can run into the corner to avoid it. Like, you have to keep running into the corner even when youre up against the wall. Im not 100% sure though. I havent played KH2 in a few years.

I know that the quick slide ability you get from Wisdom form helps a lot in that fight

You're just supposed to dash through the laser, or use Reflect on it. And then use the Learn reaction whenever he got close to stack counterattacks.

He's definitely one of the hardest bosses, but it really just comes down to those two things.

Kh 2 final mix pretty much forced you to actually learn boss patterns and learn to block/counterattack/etc. Reflect in particular is a godsend. You could even use it in place of reaction commands for the boss that fires shots at you

Yeah it had pretty good battle design.

I don't think I had to learn any enemies movements or tells to plow through KH3, even on Proud. I never got the DLC, and I'm sure the data battles require effort and learning patterns, but I feel like KH2 just had more solid gameplay all around even from the jump -- even if it was missing stuff in its vanilla version like Dodge Roll to iron some small bumps out.

Easy mode for Xaldin's laser is just summon Stitch. He'll block p much everything, and when his blocking and your Reflecting don't do the job, just Cure and Stitch will refill your MP after a few seconds. As long as you keep attacking, the summon gauge will keep refilling and Stitch will never leave.

Did KH2 Final Mix change anything about the bosses from the main game, or are you referring specifically to the additions, most of which are end and post game when you say it forced you to learn boss patterns?

Yeah there's a huge difference between vanilla KH 2 and final mix. The stuff they added definitely trumps the added stuff in KH 1 final mix.

Mostly the data fights.

If anyone's interested, this guy did a stream where he explained the strategy for defeating each of them at level 1. He's how I managed to beat them.
https://youtu.be/3M_lcWqm8HE?t=80

I will say, though, that Xaldin still felt like bullshit. I could feel myself improving every time I fought the other bosses, but Xaldin was just an absolute ass pimple and I beat it out of sheer luck.

KH2 has really bad levels generally. It's why I'm not that aboard on the whole consensus that it's easily better than one. Sure KH2's levels are mostly there to fascilitate its great combat, but something is lost over the deeper structure's of KH1 that are actually enjoyable to traverse because of their designs themselves.

That's true. I thought I was fine with the removal of KH 1's clunky platforming and KH 2's straight forward linear levels that just look pretty.

I still can't decide if I like the extra dungeon's platforming in Final Mix. On the one hand it's pretty cool to actually have a place to utilize all the drive form's abilities like double jump and gliding. On the other hand there was some frustration with trying to glide through a small opening and then double jumping to get to the other side.

Even now it takes me like 10 tries to get through there. It's never on the first try. And then after all of that platforming, a long-ass corridor of strong Nobody fights. All done without a single save. Awesome. Awesome to the max.

I played 2.5 at least twice. First time ps3, second time ps4. Encountering those nobody fights and dying the first time on ps3... the challenge and fear I felt was unmatched in a kh game.

Definitely felt awesome to go back on ps4 and be fully prepared for what was in store for me.
