Such a great film. The action, the horror, the soundtrack, the interesting ensemble cast, the philosophy, the acting, the visual and special effects. Works on a bunch of levels. Surprised this isn't generally recognised as the best Alien film.

I liked it a lot, but Alien is still my favorite and Prometheus is a close second (mostly because it feels like Alien).

I liked that part.

I just thought how they all came off as medieval peasants in silly robes. Or in Prometheus how the alien pilot runs over there... to what... grapple her? No weapons? Come on.

This is actually explained pretty well in the recent Prometheus "making-of" documentary.
the Engineers have evolved past the need for violence and therefore don't have a need for weaponry, and they can see multiple dimensions above our own (hence the black eyes), so all their shit is decorated to a ridiculous degree but we can't see any of it.

The problem I have with the first bit is that they explain away the creation of the Xeno by stating that they used synthesized Deacon blood to "seperate" their violent tendencies which led to the creation of "The Beast" aka. the first Xeno. This leads them to the idea of using the Xenos to purge Earth of their failed creation. Yadda yadda, so on and so forth.

The second bit leads to the idea that David can also see higher dimensions, which is why he seems to know everything...he's reading the writing on the wall no one else can see. I hate that notion, but whatever...I didn't make the movie.

The only Alien film that's worse is Resurrection. Even Alien 3 is better if you look past the questionable creative decisions made at the beginning of the film.

IDK, sounds a bit BS that higher dimensional clothing looks like raggy cloak in this dimension, but I have wanted to watch that making of to get a fulled explanation.

I feel like Covenant and Prometheus both felt like they were given the same Hollywood treatment and they suffered because of it feeling disconnected from the rest of the Alien movies..

Alien will always be a classic, Aliens is a rare follow-up that's actually good.

3 doesn't belong, almost like it's not even an Alien movie and Resurrection needed more raw fear to sell it, comes off as campy.

You could almost draw a graph on how the films get progressively worse.
