My friend gave me a tip that his sister in law was at a gas station and used their ATM to withdraw money and she got some brand new uncirculated 2017A $20 notes, with the serial number 0000XXXX.

So, the way it works is the low serial numbers are desired by collectors. the thousands are where it starts to get collectible, all the way up to the Holy Grail, which is bill #00000001. So, out of 99 million, finding low serial numbers is tough. I have only a handful of notes with 4 zeroes at the start, and only one with 5, a 2013 $1 bill 00000677*

I went to this ATM, and took out a buncha cash(1,500 in total) in $20s, and sure enough it was spitting out the same sequential notes. However, that isn't the most interesting thing about it: I now have two seven of a kind notes that were in that stack. bill 00005000, and then for some reason even though it was not sequantial, bill number 00000050.

So...yeah. a seven of a kind and by far the lowest serial number I have ever found. 50. Out of 99 million.

This has me super stoked. Two milestones on the same day, and then also a bunch of lowish uncirculated other notes. Only thing I couldn't find that I wish would have been bill 00004444. But eventually the ATM was giving out random circulated bills so I stopped.

I know bill # 00000001 is worth several thousand in any condition, the other singles(00000002 and so on) are probably worth a decent bit as well.

You just never really seem to see them at auction as anything but a single note. The notes get sent to banks and such in sequential packs. Which one strap would have #1 and on, but they must get broken up before people realize because I've never seen the strap starting at #00000001 for sale before.

The ATM today is still spitting out hot fire. I am going to go back today later on with my mom and take out as much as we can from her accounts.

I'll have so many notes I don't know what to do with them, as I probably couldn't hold them for a significant time period. I'll need to look into the resale value of a brand new, gently circulated 2017A $20 note with a serial number under 9,999

bills with serial numbers? Yeah. Though you guys only have 7 digits so you should have a significantly easier time(still tough though) to find some heavy hitters. I know US paper money with fancy serial numbers can be valuable, I imagine the same goes for Canada but I am not certain.

No.

Series 2017A notes hit the street in 2020. This doesn't mean it was the 50th note overall, as the format goes, such as this one P(designating 2017A), G(designating the Chicago FRB), serial number, and C.

So, for these notes youd have 99 million printed PGxxxxxxxxA, then PGxxxxxxxxB, then PGxxxxxxxxC, which is what this one is. So after 99 million notes the suffix advances by a letter, skipping O, all the way to X.

So this is the 50th note printed out of 99 million for the "third set" or run or whatever you call it(actually not sure) of 99 million notes for 2017A Chicago.

Low serial numbers are highly collectible though, so this isn't the only $20 2017A note with a serial of 00000050, but there are not going to be many of them around.

Is 69 worth more than 68?

Probably to some degree. Full solids of 77777777 and 88888888 are both more sought after than others because 7s are lucky in the US and 8s are lucky in China...

Coin and bill collecting is a big hobby. serial numbers on paper is another dimension to it. I wouldn't be too likely to care myself if there wasn't money to be made, and i'd never purchase anything like this.

I just checked the serial number of all the bills in my wallet. I've got nothing. Not even a 69 somewhere in the string.
