It depends on the state and when they start counting mail in ballots (and how long ballots are accepted for). Many of the Midwestern states don't start until election day, but Florida should have a firm result election night.

The Supreme Court is useful now for throwing out ballots cast in a way they are arguing violates the Constitution and state law thanks to Kavanaugh whos little footnote basically says in a federal election the SCOTUS can override the state Supreme Court.

There is zero precedent, legally or statutorily, for saying you cant count votes after Election Day. If that was their only argument I guarantee Roberts would not hear the case because if the court were to agree with that it would invalidate the Supreme Court and people would cease to put faith in their decisions.

It'll apply to the states that will decide the election. That's the worry here. Could come down to Pennsylvania which could still be counting next week.

I'm pretty sure it's all done electronically. A scanner that detects which bubble/line you filled in for each candidate. I can't see it being done by hand. But people have to feed them into the machines to count.
