I'd say it's been bad, but there have probably been worse years. I remember times like 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 being mostly bad (although of course it's all a matter of opinion). Very few interesting releases this year. Even the new console releases don't get me that excited.

It's not anyone's fault, obviously.

The Last of Us Part II and Wasteland 3 are some of my favorite games to come out this gen, and while I haven't gotten too far into them, I also added: Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2, and Pillars of Eternity II (console version) to my collection.

You listed like literally some of the best years of gaming in your op, so I'm having trouble taking this topic seriously.

04 had Half-Life 2, World of Warcraft, Fable, Halo 2, GTA San Andreas, Doom 3, The Sims 2, Star Wars Battlefront, Kotor 2, many many others. One of the most legendary years ever, if not the best in the history of gaming.

02 had TES 3 Morrowind, Ratchet and Klank, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, GTA Vice City. Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire (my favorite of the franchise). Legend of Zelda Wind Waker.

Those other years had great ones too. That's a really strange set of years to call out, because we were in 2nd gen 3d. 2001 to 2006 was when we had more innovation than ever, and it hasn't been matched since.

I've only played Resident Evil 3 remake and Last of Us Part II. RE3 was pretty good and TLOU2 was a masterpiece.

Animal Crossing and Doom Eternal alone make it better than some of the worst years.

The last of us 2 is probably the best game of the generation and there has been some other really good stuff. The good stuff is few and far between, unfortunately

I'm not going to lie, I don't play a whole lot of contemporary games, mostly retro stuff.

I'm kind of in a bubble in that aspect. I've had too many games to play for so long it's kind of hard to get super excited when new stuff does come out.

2020 became a good gaming year for me when trials of mana came out. a remake with overhauled combat was a dream game for me that i never thought would happen.

I have a near infinite pool of games that I need to play, so it's irrelevant.
