All of the backstory to the events of the first film, it almost serves as a prequel that we never get to see. The mythos underlying the entire series. Maureen Prescott's promiscuous relationships with Cotton Weary, Mr. Loomis, and others; Roman Bridger (Sidney's unknown half-brother) plotting against Maureen and encouraging Billy Loomis to murder Maureen, which inspired Billy to embark on his own murder spree as a way of making his own movie, etc.

It gives the series a lot of depth because I think it works better not having those events shown to us.

Honestly I think Scream 2 is just as good as the first. I can still watch and enjoy 3 and 4, but the first two are solid.

Scream 2 was the best IMO. Honestly all 4 are a good time though.

Even the TV show which got some hate, i enjoyed.
