I've been on a new diet for like two months and have honestly felt like shit. Fatigue, zero motivation, bad mood, etc. Yesterday I randomly realized hey, I haven't had a Coca Cola in a while. So I drank a can and an hour later.. it was like I was reborn. Instantly had energy, motivation came back, etc.

I've been reading a lot of similar stories on r/decaf (subreddit for people trying to quit caffeine).

I used to only drink a cup or can a day but I guess that's enough to cause an addiction, damn it.

Same here, I started feeling exhausted midday and was taking these naps that wont let me sleep at night.. I bought a pack of sour skittles just in case I thought it would be a good idea to lay down lol

Caffeine addiction is definitely underrated and it's crazy how few people realize they're addicted. I'm totally addicted myself :(

---
Just try to handle this.

Yes it sucks, even moreso when I wasn't aware that it was happening.

You've become desensitized to it, I'm guessing?

You sure it wasn't a sugar addiction?

I haven't tried no fap so I wouldn't know about that. This I can speak from personal experience though, caffeine addiction is a real thing.

I think it was definitely the caffeine. A candy bar never gave me energy like that.

There's a reason Shadowrun doesn't allow for a character to take the Addiction negative quality for caffeine.

As a caffeine addict who has taken caffeine pills, drinks coffee in excess, and loves Monster & Red Bull, I find your conclusion amusing. A can of Coke has a minuscule amount of caffeine compared to any one of these things.

As for me, I've always been an extremely low energy person so I can't blame caffeine too much for that when I haven't had enough of it. Caffeine really just allows me to function as far as I'm concerned.

I'm more of a coffee addict than anything. Yes, it has caffeine in it, obviously, but I swear it's a different thing than caffeine alone. Caffeine pills aren't in any way similar for me. Yeah, they give you energy, but it doesn't seem to provide the same creative spark that coffee does. Just unadulterated energy, which is, honestly, not helpful for my work, where I need to figure out problems on the fly too.

I hate caffeine in soda though - I always drink caffeine free options if I have a soda, like ginger ale or sprite.

I get where you're coming from, but I dunno. I just instantly felt better after I gulped it down, was pretty weird actually considering how trash I felt up to that point.

This is interesting. I've never had an interest in drinking coffee so I can't compare the two different kind of buzzes though.

Back in high school I was addicted and went cold turkey. It was hell but worth it. Now I only drink pop in mixed drinks. I'll have coffee now and then but that's not nearly as bad as pop

I've quit a lot of shit in my life, caffeine was hard because the withdrawals lasted for probably 8 weeks. But now I haven't had any since 1996.

I don't discredit your experience, but that was a rather bold statement to make. The time it takes to recover from any substance addiction is going to vary from person to person, just generally speaking. It also depends on how much the person was consuming.

Man, now that I think of it, I've been drinking a lot of Red Bull or Monster drinks since I joined the Navy.

Before he left, I knew a Chief who had his trash bin always full of empty 12oz Red Bull cans.

Yeah I guess thats fair. I quit it for three years but like the mental stimulation. My blood pressure was getting too high and my doctor mentioned it. Ive halved my consumption, no ill effects, blood pressure is normal.
