That's definitely not what it means. There are no positive rights in the US constitution, only negative. If you had a right to food in the US constitution it would simply mean the government cannot deprive you of food. Just like the 2nd amendment doesn't require the government to provide you with arms or prevent places from banning firearms on their premises.
So by your logic if I forced you to not be able to have guns or speech then thats not a violation of human rights because the government didn't do it?

No you're wrong. A right means the government will ensure that you have it.

Guns is a great example.

The right to bear arms is not infringed

If you argued that the right to own food without being infringed is a human right, the US would agree

The right to always be in possession of physical goods? In the US that by default cannot be a human right

I guess food not being a right would mean you are limited on what you could buy.
For example, making it illegal to stock in excess to prep for a hurricane.

Likely becuase of shitty parents who had no business having them in the first place. And even then we have CPS for for that crap for the truly crappy, food stamps, food banks, school etc.

There is real starvation AND death out there but just the former has your jimmies rustled and ready to call the US and capitalism a failure? Gtfo.
Gtfo? How about you stfu. My post is reasonable and not at all calling the U.S. or capitalism a failure. I have my views on that but I didn't express them here. No "jimmies" are "rustled". Nice reference. Very timely and not at all 2009. And it's funny you say that, since it's clear that you are sitting at home hyped over up just some post. Not even a hot take. Just some post. And it got you rustled.

I'm simply stating there is a food insecurity issue in this country, particularly with children, and it's been well documented. This country is doing ok on food security issues, but we could be doing much better considering how wealthy this country is and how much food is produced and ultimately wasted. Someone posted that were #3 worldwide in food security. I would fucking hope so. I would also expect us to be doing what we can to be even better, by shoring up where we are failing.

What is with the people on this board? You can't say anything without some goof flying off the handle, acting like they know everything, or taking everything to the extreme. Now I remember why I don't post in serious topics here.

As someone who is homeless (in Oregon even), I assure you there are people here going hungry, especially with several resources now closed due to COVID. (Food banks, shelters, soup kitchens, even the goddamn office you would go to apply for food stamps.) Toss in the recent fires dislocating even more people and destroying some stores and stocks of food, and now you have even more mouths to feed and less to feed them with.

Mods be damned; Anyone downplaying or mocking hunger in this topic is a literal piece of shit.

Snake has moved the goalposts so far ITT that a full game of soccer would take twenty thousand years.

He correctly stated that no one is starving in the US and you guys responded with "well if you change the definition of starving, lots of people are". You are the one moving the goalpost.

Starvation is the point beyond malnutrition where you are not consuming enough calories to live. Starvation does not exist in the US. You cannot name a single example of it anywhere in this country. There is simply too much food produced here distributed by enough government and private aid programs for any person to ever reach that point.

https://www.usa.gov/food-help

The fact that so many of you are totally unaware of this isn't surprising, CE is full of suburban kids who've never actually had to use them. Do not confuse or conflate food insecurity with starvation. Having to temporarily buy store brand items when you wouldn't otherwise do so is considered food insecurity by the government. So is worrying about being able to buy food even if you end up having enough. That's our standard for food insecurity.

You can praise North Korea for declaring food a human right all you want but I care more about our ability to actually produce food.

So once again you just flat out miss the point while somehow thinking you're coming across as remotely intelligent on the matter

Food production has never been mentioned as the problem in this topic. The articles posted all mention food production issues not being a thing, hasn't been a thing for over 50 years. Everybody knows that the US produces more food than it consumes. Wow thanks for the breaking news.

The main problem that all of those articles mention is people not being able to receive that food. It's already been shown 20 times in this topic that food production is not a problem. Production doesn't mean jack shit for people who can't receive it for various reasons, and it's not because poor people are lazy and dumb.

From the npr article that certain people seem to be allergic to for some reason that explains the problem in easy to understand English

In late August, USDA announced it would extend that flexibility through the end of the year to "ensure meals are reaching all children whether they are learning in the classroom or virtually so they are fed and ready to learn," Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said.

Perdue's announcement was cheered by school leaders across the country, but they said a major hurdle remains: This food pickup model still requires families to come to a designated site at a designated time. And many can't. Often, parents and caregivers have to work and can't get away in the middle of the day. Or they don't have a way to get to the designated pickup site. Or they're not comfortable making daily food runs in a pandemic.

Last spring, when the School Nutrition Association surveyed school nutrition directors representing nearly 2,000 districts, 80% said they were serving fewer meals than they had been when school was in session. Of those, a majority of districts said the number of meals had dropped by 50% or more.

"It was a drastic change," Fulton County's Wright said. Before her schools went remote last spring, she said they served between 50,000 and 60,000 meals a day. After students were sent home, Wright said they gave out roughly 70,000 meals per week.

Try processing that and then read the other articles that focus on more than just school children. You have a link to free food programs from schools in your post. This article shows how those programs still have not eliminated the problem.

Also before someone argues that "those numbers don't say anything about the number of kids who absolutely need meals from school to get by, the number clearly only dropped because students aren't physically at school anymore to receive those meals regardless of their family financials", don't worry an earlier part of the same article covers that using a quote from a food director using some critical thinking skills:

Before COVID-19, Arizona's Tucson Unified School District served roughly 35,000 meals a day. So far this school year, according to Lindsay Aguilar, the district's food services director, that number has plummeted by nearly 90%.
The drop is "disheartening," Aguilar said, "because in our district, 70% of our families qualify for free or reduced-price meals. So I know there's a need."

???

The person in question didn't start out in his financial situation. So you have a smartphone and a ton of hotspots in urban and suburban areas. If you don't use data (I don't know if he did), you aren't making any payments towards the phone. So you have a phone that can access the internet and little money for food.

Hope you're aware it has been mentioned previously in this topic that some people in this situation own laptops, which typically cost way more than the cheapest functional pos smartphone you can buy so the smartphone is a weird thing to dial in on. I bought a smartphone back in 2014 or 2015 for $40 from best buy for the sole purpose of playing advertisements from the internet on it literally all day and earn money for it to put towards a smart watch. That $40 was the only money I put on that phone that could access whatever on the internet, aside from the electricity it used at my home.
