-you don't need to spend $5,000 on a watch to qualify as a "nice" watch, notice i didn't say anything about pricepoint

-don't spend that much if it impacts your retirement? whether i spend the $5,000 or not i'm going to retire at the same time regardless

like you said in that one topic where you complained about not getting a $20 credit, or something petty like that, it all adds up. the cost of one watch might not have a significant impact on your retirement schedule, but frivolous expenses over a 30-40 year period will.

the only point of buying a 'nice' watch is to show off your wealth to others, which i have no interest in.

i agree...but i would argue that having my nice watch was not frivolous. for a quick recap of the last 3 years of my professional life: i had an extremely rough year, worked my ass off for a year (thousands of hours of studying for a professional licensing test) and then had an extremely good year with a 60% raise. i celebrated all of that by buying a watch i've always wanted. what is the point of working hard and making good money if i can't reward myself?

and if anyone is curious, it will not impact my retirement because i'm planning on retiring as soon as i'm immediately eligible any way and i'm not planning on having kids

that doesn't mean i want to spend money for literally nothing...but if i want to treat myself...i absolutely will

so i have gone watch crazy over the last month. idk why but i am obsessed with watches now and have bought like 5 in the last month.

picked up the tudor black bay 58 black dial on a brown leather strap today after the ad called and told me they got one in stock. i got the black bay 58 blue on a blue strap last week as it was the only one they had in the 58 line at the time. i now own both black bad models which i am super pumped about. they are my dream watches and having both makes me feel amazing and i can't stop looking at the black one now, i just wish i could have gotten one of them on the bracelet just to have. i prefer the straps anyway but would have liked to have had one bracelet.

i also own a hamilton khaki king on a brown leather strap and a seiko 5 (green) on a green strap. my other watch is a duxot automatic black dial on a steel bracelet with the mercedes hand which i really enjoy as well

yeah i didn't plan on getting another but when my ad called yesterday it was just perfect timing on her part. i have really loved the 58 blue, it is the perfect size for my wrist and i am just mesmerized by the black bay line and tudor in general. the company has an amazing legacy and i just love the 58 line. also i kind of look at em as a bit of an investment. i am not planning on selling em at all but they do tend to hold their value very well and the 58s in particular are going for more on jomashop and chrono24 than they retail for from an ad
