Yet my boss and most other management personnel work over 50. I work a a bit over 45 now and I feel like my coworkers think I'm lazy.

Yeah thats a bad team culture. Try to change it for the best or move elsewhere to prevent being drained from overwork.

I don't mind overtime - but I certainly don't like it when it is unpaid. I don't think I'll go past 45 to please them especially considering I could work for their competitor who credits overtime.

Lol if it's unpaid, definitely talk to HR and start looking for new work and don't even bother doing overtime.

You don't owe them anything

unpaid has to be salary.

no way i'd be doing much over 40/week unless it's paid overtime. 50/week is cutting into your pay a lot. if you're making like 100k a year then sure. but if it's only like 50k then screw doing extra.

It's amazing how much people work for free here in the US. Like they jerk off to how dedicated they are to a company that would fire them the instant it became convenient.

It's an engineering position in a forest products mill. Since engineer are technically management positions, we are paid on salary. Regular production personnel get paid hourly. I took this job to learn new stuff and do less overtime but it seems like unpaid overtime is very much the norm. Like I showed up at 8 and left at 7 tonight and my boss was still in his office doing stuff.

"I'm a kitchen manager. I worked 48 hours minimum every week. During the Xmas period I'd work 70 hours or more for the last 5 years(I didn't get paid for anything over 48 hours).
This year I've been diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis. The company I work for is going through the process to discharge me from employment."

An example of what going above and beyond gets you from random social media.

You are salary which means you're paid for the work you produce, not the time you work. If it takes your boss 60 hours to get his work done then that's a time management problem on his end. Working overtime in a salary position isn't anything to brag about. It's idiotic.

I have the same workload as my boss and I'm only doing 30 hour weeks while he's spending his Saturday mornings working.
