Good lord. $2909AUD he spent on that 3090.

Sometimes it really shocks me how bad with money my friends are. All because he got impatient getting a 3080 too. Which was already overkill for 1440p.

Totally new to PC gaming too lol

I can't fathom spending that much money on something unless I needed it for work

or to like, live or whatever

I have a 1080p but want to play at 144fps, is a 3070 enough for top graphics settings or do I need 3080?

Are there even any current games that require that to play on high settings?

Don't think so. Highest requirement is the 3080 for Watch Dogs Legion I think.

I spend a dumb amount on video games but I usually do some cost cutting to get there.

I have another friend who bought a 2070 Super because he was impatient as well. Gonna sell it when he gets a 3080. If he sells it at a low enough price I'll possibly by it off him and I'll be fine for a while lol

3070 is fine. You'll want to pair it with a great CPU.

I'm probably going to get a RTX 3080 for my next build. My main monitor is 1440p 144/165hz although my current PC is also hooked up to a 4K TV too (disabled most of time). 3090 price seems way too much for the performance gain it gets over a 3080.

Yep. Don't think it aged any worse than something like the Titan did.

I think they just assume that the more they spend the better the computer is. But that VRAM will be sitting there doing absolutely nothing and the 4080 will end up being faster than the 3090 anyway most likely. Maybe even the 3000 variants. Just a total waste of money.

I'm gunning for the 3070 mostly because it'll cost around the same amount as a Super but with way more longevity. I don't want to have to ponder getting a new one for a while, like when will I ever need beyond 1440p or even 4k on select games? But if I fail to get a 3070, just gonna get a Super from whatever source. I'm just afraid to get 2nd hand ones in general because I wouldn't know if I got a shitty broken down one

I've been hoping for a 3060 to be announced tbh. Budget cards are usually good enough for me.

I don't think that'll make much of a big difference between the 3080 and 3090 since the CPU will probably bottleneck before the GPU right?

Next year I reckon. Probably will be what I go with unless I get the 2070 Super off my other friend for less than $400AUD

1440p/144hz with Freesync/Gsync is probably best value for money right now. Just look up reviews for monitors with those specs and go from there.

I bought this monitor back in the summer, because my current daily driver was a 1080p 60HZ refresh rate panel that didn't even have HDMI out. I needed an upgrade. Even my secondary monitor was a 4K 60HZ refresh panel. I wanted something that could have a higher refresh rate, and I'm not targeting 4K gaming with my current PC.

just checked, my current monitor is 60hz. Thats the refresh rate right?

Is highest number you can afford pretty much what you should always look out for? Does it really makethat much of a difference?

Yes, It depends on you obviously but the higher it is the smoother the game can potentially be.

Some people claim to be unable to see between even 30 and 60 fps. Your mileage will vary.

Additionally, some people can feel a difference in input latency and even really high frame rates. Will you? It's hard to know without trying.

I mean more it depends on a games framerate in general but as Jabodie mentions it differs from person to person to begin with. It is objectively smoother the higher it is but will you notice it? I can't answer that.
