i just had like 7 buffs on just my bow special and it was laughably op. basically death spray. almost made it out. never played a game where i'm kind of happy die and start all over to try a different approach

I'm already up to 100 hours and still unlocking new stuff

I think I'm close to the epilogue? up to ~70 clears so far

I did nine then looked up the ending, even though I only had to do one more run and Hades just lets you past anyway. Game is fun but far too repetitive and drip feeds you story slower than will keep most people interested.

did you even start doing any heat runs? some of that stuff completely changes enemies/boss fights. and the weapon aspects are all pretty different from each other

Yeah, its easily one of the best roguelites ever made. Ive been having a ton of fun with it and Im not even that into the genre.

I was the same back in the day, then my friend bought me it (Diablo II, that is) and it became my most played game by far.

Love this game. Already put in 100+ hours and plan to play a lot more endgame stuff. The story drew me in at first. But now it's trying out all the different weapons and aspects.

this is a pretty bizarre question honestly, it doesn't play like diablo in any way at all. it has no gear, very little long term character progression, no builds, and a totally different (way more involved/complex) combat system going on

I'm personally not a very big fan of it, I find the visuals look very nice but are impossible to comprehend from a gameplay perspective and I also find the general combat gameplay loop rather uninteresting. I've only tried the sword so far though so if anyone has suggestions for a weapon that's more interesting I'm all ears

ughhhh i was just pwning ass with a duo boon on my cast + an op poseidon dash, but i had to get close to hades to use it and he spin attacked me too many times. thought i was about to beat him

I have ~71 clears and I still don't have the aphrodite and demeter boon prophecies done

Question: I made it all the way to the Hades fight at the end(?) of the fourth chamber before he killed me. How much further do I have to go after that?

I hope after that we can continue to go on. There are so many more fights we can have. We can have an, "Attack Mount Olympus," for example. We're missing so many Greek creatures and characters that it would be a HUGE missed opportunity to not work on a DLC

That's about as far as I've gotten as well. Between my boons and his attacks, there was just too much filling the screen for me to know what was going on. I was also trying to bum rush him at the end so another con to that run.

well I decided to go back to it and try something other than sword. I'd had 17 attempts as sword before this, only 2 of which ever made it out of act2 and none of which reached the final boss.

... won my very first bow attempt and then won my very first spear attempt immediately afterward. pretty sure sword just sucks

For me it's that it's a very well done roguelite. Like, it looks good, plays good, has a ton of variance, and a metric crapton of story/dialogue, to the point that you can finish the game so so many times and still keep developing the relationships with the cast. It's just very very solid, like I would say it's likely the best in the genre.

I made it to the final boss (as it seems that he is) using the sword, but yeah, I think the lance might be a bit better for getting some space between you and the enemies, as well as the spin attack (which you can move forward with by pressing the dash button after charging).

You should check out Rogue Legacy and Flinthook (and also Teleglitch if you're not a baby)

yeah i'm way better with the bow and rail gun than melee weapons. if you get offered the right buffs then the specials on those wreck ass

IIRC, one of the two key aspects of roguelikes are:

• Randomly-generated dungeons.
• If you die, you lose everything you gained, and some games take it further and make it so you have to start the entire game over from scratch.

I havent used the regular sword since I unlocked the secret aspect, it hits like a truck. One of the top 3 aspects imo

Because a lot of us really enjoy the Greek god stuff from our childhood, so adding that to a game with addicting gameplay and a story that is really good, it puts it above the rest. Just my opinion

Yeah, when you unlock an aspect you have to equip it to use it. Every weapon has four aspects that you can switch between. But you have to do it between runs.

Yeah I'm very surprised how terrible I am with the sword and how great I am with the spear.
Sword does suck unless you get some decent hammer upgrades. Got Piercing Wave last night that allowed my Attack to shoot waves from my sword. Doubled my attack distance and greatly improved my sword game.

The spear one is AWFUL. I don't know how I'll manage to make it to the surface with that. It's basically a "three hits, you lose" run. The rest of the secret aspects are generally pretty good.

But the spin attack heals you

For some of the newer players, go ahead and turn on God Mode. Each time you die you'll take 2% less damage. It will help you unlock stuff, and then once you get your favorite weapons some upgrades, then you can turn it off if you find it makes it too easy. But after you beat the game you'll have the option to make the next runner harder, so you can off-set the damage reduction if it gets too high really easily.

Honestly I'm not super found of the sheer amount of metaprogression in this game, it's like it can't decide whether it wants to be a normal action RPG or a rougelike and kinda ends up doing both not quite as well as it could have done either one individually

I know a lot of games like this give you some degree of metaprogression / upgrades but there is just SO MUCH STUFF locked behind playthroughs (and not even just a few playthroughs, tons and tons of them) that it's difficult to even call a run on a fresh file playing the same game
