You are a business man who has performance and absolute driving comfort in mind. You have spent the last few years in your 86 325i E30. You love everything it has to give, but you long for more, there is something that is missing. At that moment, you drive past the local BMW dealership.

In their forecourt sits something new, not the familiar 3 series of the past. There sits the brand new 3 series, gods gift to the motoring world if you will, the E36.

Captivated by its bold new looks, it persuades you to make a U turn at the next set of lights to go and have a look. What is there to lose.

At a closer glance, you fall in love. The superior updated styling of the sedan is pulling at your heart strings. The factory mag wheels, black leather interior, the lack of sunroof. You are won over. The badge on the back reveals that this is indeed a 325i.

You grab the attention of the salesman. Possible to grab the keys for this one mate?. Not a problem he responds. Ill be back shortly.

Once unlocked, you jump into what is complete and utter comfort and luxury. The feel of the updated 5 speed manual shifter is fabulous. The OBC lets you know the time and outside temperature. You are blown away by the amount of options offered.

Alright to pop the bonnet mate?. Absolutely he responds. You are amazed to find the bonnet release on the drivers side of the car. You step out and feast your eyes on what is most possibly the most beautiful thing you have ever gazed you eyes across.

What strikes you in the face is a twin cam, twenty four valve, two and a half litre, straight six, electronic coil over plug ignition pice de rsistance. Its presence in the engine bay is mesmerising. Hands quivering, you eagerly ask the salesman more.

What motor is this champ?. The next words that leave his mouth will be permanently implanted in your mind, like you knew it from the first day you were born.

M50B25. The latest and greatest straight six that BMW has to offer. With 141kws and 245Nms, youll feel right at home coming from its predecessor, but this motor offers something much more special that an M20 could never give.

Could we take it for a test drive now? You ask the salesman. Most certainly! He responds. Ill open up the lot and well be on our way.

On the road is when the magic truely comes to life. The all new updated Z axel rear end handles superb. The steering is tight and the ride quality is fantastic. The shifts are as firm as an old mans handshake, and the clutch engagement is spot on, but what leaves you most in ore is the pull and sound of the fabulous M50.

How do you like it sir?. You are in absolute shock and disbelief of what you are driving, you are not quite sure how to respond.

Its fantastic you reply. I am already sold. You head back to the dealership and organise a meeting tomorrow morning to trade in your E30 and upgrade to the superior E36.

You go home and tell the wife and kids all about it. They are absolutely ecstatic. I am so happy for you your wife responds. I feel like you havent been this excited for something since we bought the house. You are lucky to get to sleep at all. You are absolutely filled with delight.

The next day you head in, taking the E30 for one last spirited drive. It has served you well. But you are excited for what is to come.

Upon arrival, you see it sitting in the delivery drive, all clean and looking absolutely stunning. You park up the E30 in the lot and head inside.

An hour passes and you are now an official owner of the most superior 3 series ever made. The salesman runs you through your maintenance schedule and bids you farewell. You hit the road and let the good times roll.

You spend the rest of the afternoon putting kilometre after kilometre on it. You cant believe the beast you have just purchased. It opens your mind in ways you never knew. You finally tick the boxes of what the E30 was missing. That extra camshaft and proper ignition system make all the difference.

As the months turn into years, the 325i never lets you down. It offers that BMW quality like nothing else. Its shear performance never ceases to amaze you every time you drive it. Its a masterpiece well beyond its years.

The year is 2000. You have spent the last 9 years adoring what is the most phenomenal car you have ever owned. You drive past that same BMW dealership you purchased your E36 from.

You see an unfamiliar sight in the lot. The E36s have now moved to the back, where the all new 3 series has been put on display, the E46.

You slow down and stare as you drive past, the updated styling is striking. The badges are bold, and the factory mags are looking better than ever.

But you dont get that same rush you did all those years ago, no butterflies in your stomach, no light head, no urge to turn around.

You keep driving down the street, smile from ear to ear, knowing that you have indeed bought the best model 3 series BMW there was, and ever will be.
