That's kind of fucked up. I tried ten numbers and it got it correct every time*... I know there are pay websites that advertise that they can find a name from a number, but I always assumed they were scams.

The website is familytreenow.com. It was already pretty invasive because you can enter in any name and get the person's address, age, family members, and possible associates. That's all from the main search. Searching by phone number is *not* apparently designed to be possible because you have to enter in the number at the end of this: https://www.familytreenow.com/search/genealogy/results?phoneno=

What's weird is that the information you get from the main search usually includes phone numbers, but the numbers tend to be wrong. But searching by the correct phone number brings up the person's information even though the number isn't in their page. It's like they're intentionally withholding information they have...

I assume this is all legal, but it makes me uncomfortable.

*My number didn't work because the website allows you to remove your information. I did that. What's worrisome though, is that my phone number now brings up my brother, an ex girlfriend, and some woman in her 60 I don't know. Wtf.

My number comes up with two irrelevant results, but I'm sure it's frighteningly accurate for many people.

The problem anyone worried about their privacy might face is that it's probably entirely too late for them to start worrying about their privacy, especially after years or even decades of not doing so. The information is already out there and takes minimal resources to collate.
