Have you watched the Haunting of Bly Manor yet?

I loved NF's The Haunting of Hill House, but this feels like a kinda so-so follow-up.

And what was up with the ghost rules being different? Yeah, I get that the fact that they were bound to the house was something specific to Viola's curse, but you also had the forgetting and all of this memory jumping that wasn't present in Hill House. It's weird that you don't have a real consistency between seasons.

I liked the early going and the ending, but the show kinda just drops to a snail's pace for a few episodes. The Henry, Viola, and Hannah stuff just really dragged, especially since the Viola story kinda breaks up the ending and makes the cliffhanger that much longer... and it really didn't need so much. It's also a little weird for the narrator to know some of that anyway.

Otherwise the 2-year wait sucked. Hopefully the next one will be sooner, although who knows how anything will with COVID. afaik they haven't announced anything for a third series.

Have you seen it? Thoughts?

It's like the first time my name has been featured in a show, even though they spell it differently. I watch it out of patriotic DUTY. Six episodes in.

Probably not as good as Hill House.

Seems like they're going for the American Horror Story formula with the same actors playing different characters in every series

I'm about 4 episodes in and I'm enjoying it. I'm feeling like it's probably gonna be somewhat predictable though with the recurring themes from last season

The second season certainly felt more like AHS than Hill House.

Cast-wise, I seem to recall Hill House had a majority white cast whereas Bly Manor was reasonably diverse, so I'm not sure how many cast members were recycled this round although I guess with each season we'll see more people repeated. I tried to see if anybody had a list, but the most I found was this:

https://www.insider.com/cast-of-haunting-of-bly-manor-and-who-they-play#kate-siegel-has-been-confirmed-for-the-series-but-her-character-is-unknown-10

Which, if that's the case, only 4 actors were brought back (three in major roles, one in a smaller role).

Slasher was also billed as having a repeating cast, but so far we haven't seen that many of the same faces
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slasher_(TV_series)

Also Slasher kinda sucks, although s3 was fun.

It's surprisingly very different from Hill House in a lot of regards.

They're based on completely separate novels. I don't understand why you'd think there would be consistency between seasons. Ghosts often don't even have consistent rules even within a single horror film, much less unrelated stories.

I found both the kids pretty annoying, which sucks because creepy/victimized children are a horror staple. They're both expected to carry the show quite a bit as well.

While they're loosely inspired by separate works, I kinda assumed there'd be something of a shared universe because that's how its contemporaries have kinda worked so far (AHS being a prime example). It's a little unusual to have something resembling a series where the rules vary season by season like that.

I'm not sure what you mean by that claim.

Pros:
No floating cartoon man
The house is spoopy
Glasses man is spoopy

Cons:
The kids are annoying
The female lead isn't a very good actor. Her delivery felt all wrong.

No floating cartoon man

Oo

idk, I really liked Hill House's ghosts, although "Glasses" in Bly Manor was pretty cool as well (until you hear his backstory... and then also the fact that he doesn't really do much and, in all likelihood, was probably just a figment of her imagination since characters who have no problem seeing ghosts never see him)

No in either sense. Within the show, season one is Hill House (which is portrayed as being in America) while the other is located in the UK. In real life, the house portrayed as Bly Manor is actually in Vancouver and the one used for Hill House is down in Atlanta.

I loved AHS, although "Murder House" was a fucking slog to get through and initially turned me off the series. "Hotel" was also pretty fucking awful, at least early on.
