It has more to do with all the sugars and carbs people consume. Though a big part of that is liquid sugar of which drinking more water instead would help.

Plus the latest I have heard on this is scientists say you only need 40 ounces of water a day now instead of 64. Drinking the 64 would probably be more beneficial however.

Any flat number for how much water you should drink is probably nonsense, you should drink enough to be hydrated which you have an in built detection mechanism for called thirst. Granted, medical conditions and drugs can mess with how thirsty you feel

I used to think I was super healthy because I drink a ton of water then I learned water intoxication is a thing and people die from it and I'm like what the hell is nothing safe come on now
