Ol' Billy Redballs is the host of the fancy sketch show this evening. He didn't even mention it on the Thursday podcast, unless I missed him saying it.

His style of comedy seems too raw for the likes of SNL.

For some reason, I always thought that many successful stand-up comedians held a grudge against SNL for only putting up certain sketch comedians.

People host SNL to promote their latest shit, basically. Expect to hear about whatever he's filming, his tour, and of course merch

Probably because he's trying to watch what he says. But there will be some blowback from his monologue, but I doubt it lasts very long.

As if a new Bill Burr tour would be unwelcome or unsuccessful.

These millionaire comedians truly have it hard. Louis C.K. masturbated in front of female workers and he's still doing comedy stand up shows.

I really don't care at all about any perceived offensiveness. It just wasn't funny

Bill Burr's monologue was fantastic and perfectly crafted.

Made a joke about cancel culture trying to cancel everything followed by delivering jokes to prove the point. And then white liberals took the bait and now want to cancel him.

It's funny seeing the reaction on twitter. Half of it is white women getting mad at him and the other half is BIPOC laughing with him.

Billy was a bit off tempo but that's to be expected. He had practically no time to work on a tight 7. that said, he managed to warm up a cold crowd, one of his specialties.

He literally started off with a COVID bit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1xgXJ5_Q34

He struggled a bit when the crowd did not follow his corona stuff. It was a lot better when he did it on Conan and it was a cruise liner bit.

The woke movement section on white women though? Magnificent. I can just hear Nia cackling in the background when he wrote that.

the covid joke was underdeveloped. it rightfully got a cringe. it's easy to forget that even the greats have to workshop everything.

Don't get me wrong. I adore Bill.

But why would you bring up workshopping a joke when this was on national TV? On SNL of all places? That's not a chance to workshop a joke. That's where you should bring your A-material.

And he wouldn't need to "workshop" it anyway. He told basically the same joke on Conan's show. Just replace COVID with cruise ships. It wasn't underdeveloped it was a just a replace-A-with-B bit.

He even admitted as much on his pod that he's just now shaking off the rust as he only got back to live standup a month or so ago. He lives in L.A. where there is no live comedy going.

I think the joke landed for Burr fans because we know his sarcasm. I think the tone of it got lost on those unfamiliar with him and he didn't really sharply convey it well.
