That is only $80 less than the XSS itself ($379.99) and half the price of the XSX ($599.99).

What the fuck

Is the storage proprietary?

Yes. If you want to use an SSD as additional storage it's the only option.

Otherwise you can use any USB 3.0 external HDD, which is clearly the superior option because you can get ones that are 12+ TB for significantly less than this thing costs.

Can't you use a normal portable hard drive for $50?

I thought you had to use that specific SSD for XSS/X games? You can use any external HDD to play Xbone or previous games, but the XSX needs to depend on the SSD for running?

Besides, the price is going to drop inevitably within the next year or two after the systems aren't as new. Just like the systems themselves.

You can store XSX/XSS games on an external HDD but you have to move them to an SSD to actually play them.

Hence why it's still the superior option to get a massive external HDD because moving games from an external HDD to the internal SSD will take a negligible amount of time.

And I'm not sure about the price dropping. Because it's proprietary they have no reason to and the only reason for a price drop would be if a 2 TB expansion eventually gets released at the same price point.

The Seagate Xbone/PS4 "branded" external 2 TB HDDs are still selling for $130 here. You can get non-branded ones for $90 regular price lol
