Never played DnD, so Im kinda confused on stats. Im making a human fighter. It seems that my Con only increases my hitpoints every even number 10, 12, 14, etc.

Ive got it at 16 right now for +3 HP, but the recommended class has it at +15. Why is that? Seems unless its at an even number it doesnt do anything to help.

My stat spread is...

STR: 16
DEX: 14
CON: 16
INT: 10
WIS: 12
CHR: 9

You get additional stat points at level up sometimes.

So you hold off on making one even to boost another and make it up later.

Oh alright. Id played with my ranger up to level 3, and hadnt gotten any, so I wasnt sure. Is it very rare?

@DrizztLink going from 15 to 16 con takes 2 points on character creation. So would I have to wait a super long time to make up that point? If so, Ill just do it now, and catch my CHR/INT up later.

I'm pretty sure the recommended stats use the Standard Array of 15,14,13,12,10,8

Each gets a +1 from being human, which leaves it at 15.

Anyways at level 4 you can get a 2 point boost to any stat, or 1 each to two different stats.

You get your stat bump at Level 4. You can put 2 into one skill or 1 into two. Or you can take a Feat, but I dont think those are in here yet.

And yes, only even numbers matter. Humans get a +1 into everting, so putting your 16 into Human will give you 17, but 16 and 17 give the same bonus, a +3. So its better to put the 15 into your beat stat, which will bump it to 16

However in a Human it doesnt matter too much. It only matters in the races that give you a +2 into a stat like High Elf. Wizards want Int and High Elves +1 in Int and +2 in Dex. So put the 15 on On Int, which makes it 16, and the 14 in Dex making it also 16. Now you have two stats that give you a +3 to skill checks.

@Bad_Mojo Makes sense. Why does the game recommend I take something like, 12 wisdom for a warrior build? Is that just for saving throws, blocking CC effects and whatnot?

Wisdom is effects your perception, so it's pretty good. That's what you really need to look at, what skills they effect. What type of character do you want to be?

This is what everything is effected by -



So you're a fighter, right? And you want Strength to be your primary attacking option, as in you want to you strength weapons like axes and great swords and not dex like bows and daggers.

So -

15 should go into Strength, making it a 16 [+3]
14 should go into Con, making it a 15 [+2]

After that you have a 9, 11, 13 to use [adding in the +1], all odd numbers. So just look at the skills you want to use and the ones you're good [proficient] with. You don't really need Dex if you're going strength, but you might want to make it higher if you want to be sneaky as well, but it's not really all that great to be a Jack of all Trades in this game. No Lone Wolf mode here, lol

I know literally nothing about the game besides it's Forgotten Realms. Is it good, iyo? What races are currently implemented?

You don't really need Dex if you're going strength

Worth noting that Dex is a very common saving throw and it also affects imitative.

Assuming it works in BG the way it does in 5e.

I cant remember off the top of my head, but not everything right now. No Dragonborn, no Monk. Ranger got reworked, no Feat Human, No Sorcerer. Thats what I can remember off the top of my head. But we got that one race that starts with a G, but I cant spell it. They hate Mindflyers
