Bill Buckner's "between the legs" mishap in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, or Scott Norwood missing a field goal on the last play of Super Bowl 25, giving the Giants the win?

The Red Sox have won a World Series before and after Buckner's gaffe to lessen the pain, but the Bills have still never won a Super Bowl. So I say Norwood.

Scott Norwood missing wasn't a blunder. The stats showed he sucked kicking on grass fields and it was a long kick to begin with. The Giants defense played for the field goal attempt on the final drive.

Story goes that Buckner was injured and shouldnt have been on the field at all. He was just out there because the manager wanted him on the field to celebrate when the Red Sox won. Can anyone confirm this?

Bill Buckner tbh
From what I understand Scott Norwood had a very low chance of making that field goal. Bill Buckner had an easy grounder right there for him and he fucked it all up --- i7-3970X Extreme ~ Asus Rampage IV Extreme ~ 32 GB DDR3-2133 ~ 10 TB 7200RPM ~ 500 GB SSD ~ 690 x2 ~ 1200 W PSU Gold ~ ... Can anyone confirm this? Buckner was at the end of his career & his knees were shot. They had often used defensive replacement for him in late games. Still the bigger blunder, but not exactly his fault. ... Copied to Clipboard!

The Red Sox had already blown the lead by the time of the Buckner play, and Mookie Wilson was fast enough that he might have beaten it out even if he had came up with the ball.
But also, a 47 yard field goal on grass was pretty hard by the standards of Norwood's era. --- kin to all that throbs ... Copied to Clipboard!

Kickers miss field goals all the time. What Buckner did simply almost never happens to pro baseball players.

Bill Buckner. It was a absolutely routine groundball that any infielder should be able to make 95%+. Hell, even if he just knocked the ball down he still would have stopped the game-winning run.
A 47-yard field goal still has some inherent risk. No one kicks well-enough from 47-yards for that distance to be a given. Today's league average would probably put the success rate at around 60-70% in this era, and kickers are noticeably better nowadays than in 1990. It was a clutch kick and he unclutched it. Happens fairly often. --- 'Cause you know that I have no fear, ain't gonna walk into the river and disappear. I'm gonna be a powerful man. Red blood running down the broken sand. ...
