For me, it was the fact that the technology in Teslas is still so far ahead of what anyone else offers. Yeah, others are more affordable, but no other manufacturer comes close to what Tesla offers wrt to the technology suite that comes with the car. Yeah, their QC is pretty bad compared to other manufacturers, but at least they'll fix that under warranty.
