they really need to be hiring 3 or 4 people instead of putting out jobs like:

systems administrator

• in charge of physical and virtual network
• in charge of server and cloud infrastructure
• in charge of all endpoints (windows 7, windows 8, windows 8.1, all editions of windows 10, various mac osx editions, android, ios, blackberry)
• in charge of helpdesk
• you're a one man band so you're the project manager as well
• you better know voip
• maintain our sharepoint as well
• we have over 700 staff and we will be giving all of them your mobile number
• you better know our obscure shit ass apps from 20 years ago we cant upgrade because it would cost money
• after hours? didnt you know IT is 24/7
• reports to the CFO because IT is a cost center

that shit is basically like 5 or 6 people. yet its 1 job description

same reason you dont hire just one finance person to handle everything from accounts payable to accounts receivable to internal budgeting to accounting to payroll to HR

Yeah, that's ridiculous and completely violates separation of duties. I wouldn't work for a company like that.

Depends on the size of the company. I know the OP is a little exaggerated but a place with 700 employees would not just have one dude handling sys admin stuff and helpdesk by himself.

Also outside of the app bullet and cloud, everything TC mentioned was what I was doing as a sys admin 10 years ago so it's nothing new. I had about 130 employees at my location I managed. Some places abuse the time of their salary people. You have to get creative to minimize the complexity in the environment to make your workload easier.
