Current Events > Doing my first Pokemon Nuzlocke: Platinum

I never finished Pokemon Pearl and never played Platinum so I figured I'd give it a go. Currently storming Galactic HQ in Eterna City. Team consists of:

Chippy the Bibarel (lvl. 17)
Romeo the Budew (lvl. 18)
Kaminari the Luxio (lvl. 18)
Jet the Staravia (lvl. 19)
Kongfu the Monferno (lvl. 22)

No deaths so far. I have a Buizel, Shellos, Pysduck and Meditite sitting in the PC as the reserves team (underleveld af tho).
Edit: Also have a Zubat in the PC.

NOO! Chippy the Bibarel just died to Jupiter's Skunktank... I sent out Jet to Intimidate the Skunktank then Kaminari to Intimidate again. Kongfu then to set up Taunt (he's the only one to tank Poison Gas). I figured that Chippy could handle the fight from then on with Rollout since she's so bulky but a critical hit Night Slash one shot her...

Chippy you will be missed...

Edit: Will be filling in the empty slot with Coastie the Buizel from the PC.

Lost Coastie like 3 battles after losing Chippy. Grinding for levels outside of Hearthome and Kaminari died to a critical hit Magical Leaf from a wild Roselia. TF!?

Yep. I was not expecting to lose so many Pokemon like this. Kaminari was like 5 levels higher than the Roselia that killed him.

Platinum is super fun to Nuzlocke. A huge variety of Pokmon and plenty of gift Pokmon too. Consider Old Rod Magikarp, the gift Eevee in Hearthome, and early Gible as possible party members

I'm gonna do a heartgold rando nuzlocke soon and I'm ready for the hell that awaits me and my team.

If you can get that Zubat to a Crobat quick you'll have a solid team member

Alright so currently grinding for levels before taking on Fantina. My current team is:

Glimey the Shellos (lvl.18)
Reverb the Bronzor (lvl. 20)
Romeo the Budew (lvl. 20)
Icarus the Togepi (lvl.1)
Jet the Staravia (lvl. 25)
Kongfu the Monferno (lvl. 25)

Really counting on Glimey, Reverb, and Jet to carry for this gym (maybe Icarus if I can get him to a decent level). I'm hoping that Glimey can pull through if I get him to a high enough level, Reverb because he's psychic/steel which should be a decent type matchup against the gym, Jet because he's Normal type so Ghost type moves won't have an effect on him, same reason for Icarus.

Mismagius is lv26 iirc and it has base 105 speed+sp.atk, and Magical Leaf+ Shadow Ball. Please level up a bit more! Bronzor Togetic and Staravia seem like safe options.

i wouldnt use Shells against Fantina, but overall I love it for Nuzlockes. Early Water Pulse and Mud Bomb are awesome, and it also gets Body Slam and Recover down the road. Are you using items in-battle?

Dont forget to pick up Eevee while youre in Hearthome! You get all the evolution stones in Solaceon Ruins so you have access to any Eeveelution you prefer (except Glaceon, its super late-game)

Yep Mismagius does have Magical Leaf. I think against her first two should be fine tho.

Well I have to say that this is my first time grinding and I FUCKING hate it. Jesus Christ the areas right outside of Hearthome is a pain type wise for my team to grind against.

Jet is lvl. 28
Reverb is lvl. 26
Kongfu is lvl. 27
Glimey is lvl. 25

And that's the best progress I've gotten so far. I can push those guys to lvl. 28 but getting Icarus (who is know a Togetic) and Romeo up to 28 is gonna suck!

Icarus is lvl. 16 and Romeo is still at lvl. 21

I'm really fucking trying. He's holding the soothe bell, has never lost a battle but for some reason wants to stay a Budew. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

budew needs to level up in the morning only. You get the friendship checker app in Eterna City. Honestly usually I just run/bike back and forth for a good 5-10 mins. Budew stops learning moves early so I usually get it to evolve at exactly level 12

So you can get him to evolve via travel only?

Yeah. Technically if youre patient you can get a Roselia right after catching Budew above Jubilife, just by running around. And Budews learnset and statset is pretty trash so its best to evolve it at level 12 or earlier

I'd say yes. If your Pokemon faints for any reason in a Nuzlocke, it's dead. I personally just wouldn't even chance using Metronome in a Nuzlocke.

Yeah this thought just occurred to me and I'm big scared of using Icarus now. I could use him as a pivot but Togetic doesn't get ANY good moves except maybe Ancient Power. Im not using him until I can evolve him.

Togepi also evolves by happiness like Budew (doesn't require it being daytime like Budew does though) so just bike around for a while with them in your party and they'll get high enough eventually.

Just ran into a Clefairy while grinding out levels for Glimey. Didn't know I could get this encounter.

Just beat Fantina. Took out Duskull with Glimey, she switched out to Mismagius, I switched to Reverb. Confused eacother on that turn, Extrasensory'd her, pivoted to Icarus and she used Shadow Ball, Mismagius sleeps I send out Kongfu and take out Mismagius with Flame Wheel, took out Haunter with Mismagius.

Glimey the Shellos lvl.28
Kongfu the Monferno lvl.28
Icarus the Togetic lvl.22
Romeo the Budew lvl.22

Pretty clear I have to grind levels for Icarus and Romeo and evolve Romeo. I think Veilstone is unlocked now? I know there's a npc that gives massages so HOPEFULLY that'll push Romeo over the edge because at this point I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Since the cap is now lvl. 40 I feel like if I can get Kongfu, Reverb, Glimey and Jet to evolve I'll be biggggg chillin for a good rest of the game.

Going to get Eevee. Any ideas on who I should evolve it into? Thinking Jolteon but I'm honestly not too sure.

In the Solaceon Ruins right now collecting evolution stones. Glimey evolved into a Gastrodon and I caught an Unown with a ghost type hidden power.

At Route 210, encountered a Geodude I could've caught but it would've been OHKO'd by anyone on my team so I just ran away. Battled a trainer and FINALLY Romeo evolved into a Roselia.

So before I challenge the fighting gym leader I wanted to do a couple things. I received Porygon who I named
Error 404 because I could not think of a good nickname, evolved Reverb into a Bronzong, evolved Jet into a Staraptor, evolved Kongfu into an Infernape. I also finally got Eevee who I nicknamed Zap because I evolved him into a Jolteon. Zap actually came with a Jolly nature so he's going to be SOLID on the team. Gonna grind some levels for Zap since he's underlevel in comparison to my team but level in regards to where I am in the game right now. Also caught a bunch of Pokemon in the Safari Zone, not sure how they work with Nuzlocke rules but the first one I caught was a Tropius.

Icarus the Togetic lvl.24
Glimey the Gastrodon lvl.31
Reverb the Bronzong lvl.34
Jet the Staraptor lvl.34

Damn I'm loving Zap. He's been pulling mad weight and did great against Crasher Wake. Benched Icarus for a little bit to bring back Romeo who's also been doing really good. Big shout out to Zap and Romeo for leveling up REALLY quick and catching up to everybody else level wise.

I think some Team Galactic event is about to happen next. Think I'll bench either Reverb or Romeo to give Icarus a chance to catch up on levels. I think my most solid team members are Kongfu, Jet, Zap and Glimey; so the other two are switchable. Reverb is a solid tank but he only has Extrasensory and is very limited move wise so far.

Alright so what's happened? I fought Cyrus made my way to Canalave City. Beat the shit out of Barry once again, took on Byron's Iron type Gym and got the badge (Glimey really shined in that battle) and made my way to Iron Island. Walked with the Lucario dude and cleared the are, Icarus almost died but a lucky "Wish" saved him last minute while he was on 4 hp. Just hatched the Riolu egg and trying to think of a nickname. I think I'll nickname him Vodka. Going to slap on the exp share on him and continue the journey. Oh! I also got the shiny stone so I need to decide whether I evolve Icarus or Romeo.
