I've been a foster parent and it's been one of my greatest sources of joy watching my foster daughter grow from an at-risk teen on juvenile probation with the state into a well-balanced young woman with a job and her own place.

I don't want any biological children at all but I could see myself fostering another teenager before I die though.

as stupid as i personally find religion, i guess it'd be a "valid" reason for some people

i don't think any of the major religions (e.g. christianity, islam, hinduism, etc.) say anything about whether your kids need to be your own, though?

Adoption is an extremely difficult and expensive process. People who say just adopt make me laugh because its clear they have done no research and have no idea of the sorts of hurdles and complications you have to tackle, legally, financially and emotionally.

Also, not everyone is equipped to handle adopted children who need special attention and dedication to their well being, especially if they are older kids who have gone through trauma. Take a look at stories on reddit from folks who have been adopted and there is a ton of horror stories and resentment.

Adopting babies is an even more difficult process with extremely long wait times. There are actually far fewer newborns up for adoption than people think and it can take years. You dont just got to a baby store and pick a baby.

Thanks for admitting that. Most people havent had to be in the position to do that kind of research so its a common thing to say. As someone who cant conceive children naturally, its something Ive considered and weighed my options on. Ive chosen the IVF route for now (which my company pays for 100%) but I frequently have read or received comments about how selfish I am for this. Most people seem to think adoption in the US is some simple process but it really isnt.
