I hated it in the arcades - but now that I can play it at home with unlimited continues, I love it. Played through the series a few months ago and had a blast.

The NES and the SNES ports, sure. But the main games were a decent little distraction.

to the topic, yes, it failed.

In 1983, one would put in four quarters (a dollar was still a lot of money in 1983, especially for a kid), get dead in about thirty seconds, and never play Dragon's Lair again.
