It's not just some guy that cut you off in traffic. It's the guy that actively let this thing spiral as bad as it's gotten, denied it, and who had the power to help mitigate it.

So sick of moral high horse people, everyone has limits and nobody is some perfect altruistic angel.

It's just people wanting to feel like their morals are better. That shits weak. People like it when the bully gets what's coming to him. It's human nature; stop trying to act like you're above it and everyone else are savages.

If he dies, he's a conspiracy martyr and we get Pence.
If he recovers with only mild symptoms, he'll use it to downplay the virus as he always does.
If he recovers after severe symptoms, maybe - maybe - it'll be enough of a kick in the ass to take things seriously.

But at this point, I doubt that too. I don't wish harm, but I also don't wish continued harm on Americans impacted by his repeated disinformation.

But I do want him to finally not take this lightly. I just don't know what it'll take anymore.

Even without that concern or possible superstition, I worry about the ethics of wishing death-by-illness on someone. It's one thing to want to see someone fall off a cliff. It's another to wish they get sick and die.

I would argue that it's more ethically responsible to want the guy who's largely responsible for 200K deaths and millions more having lost their livelihood to be removed from power one way or another.

What does it for me is the blue checkmark Twitter liberals who were practically dancing in the streets when, over the summer, the Red States that opened early were getting smacked with Covid cases, but are now somberly chastising people joking about Trump getting it. Like what it was all fun and games and political chess when it was somebody's grandma in Georgia dying in the hospital, but now that it's a rich country club dude from the Manhattan elite it's suddenly serious?

donald trump has stepped on uncountable backs to get to where he is. donald trump would have no sympathy for you if you got sick. he would have no sympathy for you if you died. the most he looks at coronavirus victim as is a statistic which he feels negatively affects his reelection chances

if someone can manage to pump out some modicum of sorrow for him, good on them. but expecting people to be performatively empathetic towards a horrible person is stupid

I think that's a fair point to make, but I don't think all the people of the first group directly transitioned into the second group. I think it's possible some people felt bad about lots of states getting hit and not feeling bad for Trump, and also people who are on the 'that's what you get' side of things on both fronts, and also people that just don't wish it on anyone, state wide or personal level.

It's not about being better or being worse than someone. You get nothing out of pretending you care about whether or not the guy who has spent the entire year fucking up the country's response to a plague gets said plague or not. You just end up looking like a sucker who can't differentiate between innocent victims and the guy that was continuously throwing them into harm's way with himself to make poll numbers go up.
