It's worth noting that due to the way labor laws work in Poland that they only work 40 hours a week, and they're adding one more 8 hour day. So they work less in crunch than most Americans do normally.

They just instituted a mandatory 6-day week a few days ago, and that's saying a lot since my mandatory 6-day week is pretty much in place already.

Regarding labor laws in Poland:
  • overtime over regular 8 hours on a work day or on Saturdays is paid 150%, 200% on Sundays or national holidays
  • alternatively, you can get additional days off at a 1:1.5 ratio for overtime (so 6 hours overtime gets you 8 hours off)
  • you are required to have at minimum 11 hours between your shifts
  • you can't average more than 48 hours of total work time per week in a billing period (length can be variable, usually a month, I think)
  • you can't work more than 150 hours of overtime total in a year (limit can be altered by a clause in your contract)
  • law forbids overtime to be a regular occurence (no strict definition here - you have to sue and let the court decide if overtime was excessive)
  • pregnant women and underage staff are forbidden from working overtime even if they would want to, parents of children aged 4 or below can refuse overtime without any consequences, disabled people can refuse as well and need a doctor's approval if they want to work overtime

also they're all going to get a fat chunk of a bonus with 10% of CDPR's yearly profit being divided up and given to the devs

but it's SO UNFAIR

No, no, no. You cannot bring facts in to a discussion like that without some kind of spoiler warning! Poland's fair labor laws do not count, it must be judged by America's standard!

That was sarcasm.

Many countries have actual labor laws, and don't demonize Unions. It does appear people are judging Poland's "crunch" by their own nation's experiences. Which is wrong.

Yet, if we tried to implement any of that here, it'd probably be called "socialism" or something.

Yep, that's what happens when you allow the right to demonize unions and any sort of fair treatment for employees for decades. Most of Europe has laws similar to this. Which is why they have a good work to life balance and we here in the US are expected to grind our lives away and be considered lazy if we don't want to.

It's marked as a competitive card game, like Hearthstone. So it does have card packs that you can buy, but reading some of the guides, it is very easy to farm the ingame materials and get them using that method.

But Witchers 1, 2 and 3 do not have microtransactions. And the single player Cyberpunk 2077 also won't have any.

Compared to the "crunch time" that numerous other companies have to go through... This is nothing....

That said it's a pity they had to instate mandatory Saturdays for a month and half, I know they were against doing so if at all possible...

Of course haters decided to use this as a way to dump on a company that has made nothing but exceptional games while improving every time a new one is made...

such is life

They said that the multiplayer was going to have them pretty much right from the beginning. And considering how optional the microtransactions in Gwent are, I don't see CDPR doing anything even close to what Western publishers like EA did with Battlefront 2 when it was released.
