Liquid water is vital for biology, so the finding will be of interest to researchers studying the potential for life elsewhere in the Solar System.

But the lakes are also thought to be extremely salty, which could make it difficult for any microbial life to survive in them.

Ask Jewish people about salty fish we love them.

Any smart people on here? Whats the most realistic way to terraform Mars? I think we start by transplanting the most adaptive plants and bio organism on Mars and slowly add more and more it should start creating atmosphere of its on or something like that

I suspect thered be trouble accessing it in a way that doesnt release it into the atmosphere as water vapor.

You cant pump ice out of the ground.

But its promising. I have it on good authority that NASA can science the shit out of this problem.

You can't. The process would require more work, energy, money, and manpower than we can reasonably muster in 200 years. We can't even solve climate change on our own planet, we are not going to seed Mars with an atmosphere and an EM Field strong enough to permanently withstand solar radiation.

Terraforming would, however, involve impossibly crashing millions of asteroids and comets into the surface in order to inject it with enough green house gases to sustain an atmosphere, then invent an extremely advanced fusion reactor satellite capable of producing an EM field around the planet (Far and away the easiest part). After that, a few decades would be needed for the debris to settle out of the atmosphere. Then you would need to expend an absolutely stupendous amount of rocket fuel to transport the industrial and residential tools necessary to maintain permanent habitation, as well as plants, animals, microorganisms, and people.

Terraforming anything but a near-Earth planet is a fool's errand, unfortunately.

I will repeat what NDT said on the matter.

Any civilization with the ability to terraform another planet has the ability to repair their own.

So ... we dont know.

... Buddy, we are talking about terraforming Mars using Earth-based life. I'm pretty sure all aerobic life on Earth will still be aerobic if we transport it to Mars.
