There was one I read a while ago that featured a bit about a dude jerking off while shooting a lame horse.
Think it was Cujo.

I said by far but I actually really love It as well. Very dense book with a lot of well fleshed out characters and stories.

11.22.63 is just such a fun book, and it's ending is so perfect and beautiful. I think his son helped write the end, y'all should check out him if you haven't. Joe Hill, N0S4A2 was an awesome book.

I watched the show after reading the book and it was pretty damn bad. James Franco did not sell me on the main character at all.

I didn't think the show was too bad tbh. Nowhere near the quality of the book, which is one of King's best, but still pretty enjoyable.

It's main flaw for me was that it - kinda by necessity - introduces a sidekick character for Jake so he has someone to tell his plans/thoughts too (understandable since Jake spends much of the book carrying out his plans alone until the latter sections anyway so we're privy to his motivations more through the narrative than anything) but then gets sorta tangled up in having to give the sidekick his own subplots, character moments and so on, which dilutes the tightness of the narrative and feels superfluous especially since they then need to ditch the character when, as in the novel, Sadie takes on a more active role.

I also feel that - and I'm keenly aware that this sounds contradictory to my complaint about the narrative being diluted by the sidekick, but bear with me - it also focused too heavily on the main story beats. The biggest joy of the novel to me was the way that in the middle section the book basically amounted to "we've got this modern guy sat in the late 50s, he's got five years to kill, let's just watch what he gets up to..." and a lot of that is lost through the way the show is only really focused on the main story beats (which, as I say, are muddied a bit anyway).

But I did still think it was pretty good on its own merits, and to be fair, those complaints are ones that you would only really notice if you were familiar with the novel - it's more of an "I don't like these differences" situation than an "I don't like the whole thing" one.

11/22/63

I didn't like the show. Didn't even bother finishing it. My biggest issue is just how dumb James Franco's character is. King puts so much meticulous detail into how Jake avoids drawing attention to himself. Then the first thing Franco does is walk into the skeeviest bar he can find and bets something like $10k on a massive longshot.

I'll also echo what Tom Clark said above. The book is not really about him trying to stop JFK's assassination. I'd say it's honestly 30% of the book. The real meat of it is him just living in the 60s.

Everythings Eventual, specifically 1408.

Since it was a collection of short stories it didnt bother me when Kings inability to write a compelling ending reared its ugly head. Not as much as reading a huge novel only to find that it was aliens all along Under the Dome or scary ghost pirates ooooooOOOOOooooo Duma Key or just a farted out non-climax to a 30-year-old, 7-book series.
