Since Cali announced no more sales of new gas cars in 2035?

The oil companies are not going to like this <_<

California does a lot of stupid, fake things. Remember when they tried to say you couldn't sell guns that didn't microstamp all the shell casings with the gun's serial number, when that was not a technology that existed?

15 years is a long time considering how fast technology is developing, it might not even seem like a big deal by then.

Or it doesn't work at all and they end up repealing the law. Doesn't really matter either way.

My favorite CA law is the one that everything that could up your chance of getting cancer ever, even by 1/10000 of a percent, is stamped MAY CAUSE CANCER

MAY CAUSE CANCER is on meat, milk, OTC drugs, drive throughs, parking garages... but only in CA

Thing is, gas will never go away unless they intend to buyback people's gas cars so they can get EV's. They're too prohibitively expensive for poor people.

no, they are the ones that will not be able to afford used gasoline cars anymore because the prices will skyrocket, and its not like they can take public transportation either because of how bad the infrastructure is there

as demand goes down, gas production will go down, and its cost will go up.

california is one of the biggest car markets in the country. when they set a standard like this it shifts the market. they're the primary reason we have such strict emissions standards on new cars after all.

You're assuming the market isn't radically changed by then. 15 years ago no one was using smart phones. Electric cars have 15 times the market share in CA than they did a decade ago.

CA likes passing laws that fuck over poor people but we don't know if this is one of them yet.

the Cali law is semi jumping the gun but there will be much fewer straight gas cars on the road in the 30 plus years, by the time the 2050's (hopefully) roll around much electric vehicles will be much better engineered and mass produced to the point that gas vehicles will just not be all that common.
think of it like what the cell phone is doing to landline phone communication

Reminder that hydrogen cars do exist and the only thing stopping us from using them is the lack of hydrogen gas stations. So if California were to really put effort into a hydrogen infrastructure then they could begin phasing out gasoline in 2035.

As much as I looooove the idea of hydrogen cars, hydrogen is a whole can of worms in the creation and delivery/storage

I would rather that over electric, and frankly the delivery system if electricity is in question as well...so maybe there's hope. Simple conversation for ICE vehicles to convert too

Having a pick up truck, but not using it to pick things doesn't make sense. I have a SUV which I load up the rare times otherwise I'd go back to a car. If I get a dog in the near future it would be good cause the dog can ride in the trunk which is roomy.
