They're a local transportation and limousine service that primarily specializes in privately chartered vans/busses and stuff. Apparently someone showed up for work in the morning and found all their vans and other vehicles on blocks, with the catalytic converters cut out.

They called us for a quote for replacement parts for their seven Ford Transit vans: cats, O2 sensors, other stuff, etc. Comes out to about $3k per van, with their wholesale discount. I hope they have good insurance.

I've delivered parts to their place before, it's basically an unsecured lot. I didn't notice any sort of security cameras or anything. Not a smart idea to keep a whole fleet of Ford, Mercedes and other kinds of vans and busses in an unsecured location like that lol

If that's the case, chances are their insurance is not good

Was this in the Nebraska Iowa area by any chance? I work in auto insurance and we've had quite a few of those claims recently

Depending on who you sell it to, legally or illegally, I'd say up to a couple hundred per cat

I genuinely feel bad for them, but I'm wondering why they didn't think to implement stricter security measures. Their property is literally an ungated lot with some maintenance garages and an administrative building. At some point common sense should kick in.

Nope, Virginia.

i heard on talk radio that you don't even need catalytic converters; they're just government regulation

well yes, it converts the harmful, toxic emissions from a car into a harmless one. you can run the car fine, but you wont pass an emissions test any time soon.

Even if you take the sociopathic stance, don't give a shit about the emissions and run straight pipes without cats, you still need to do something to moderate your air/fuel mixture, otherwise you'll just be in open loop mode and the engine will run rich the whole time, killing your gas mileage and performance.
