My theory is Nintendo played the long game and are waiting to release "Thunder Yellow", "Aurora Crystal" and " Gemini Emerald" (post others, name to be determined) are because of certain anniversaries. give it till 2023; we'll have yellow's re-release (15 year). after that is the others.

maybe they stay on course and we get a remake of gen 4; you think they'll wait till a remake of gen 8 before going back to Kanto/Johto? They're do a new remake soon enough that'll be a "complete" edition before we see a gen 4 (MAYBE 5) remake.

Doubt it.

Game Freak outright said that the Let's Go games are reimaginings of Yellow. Heart Gold and Soul Silver already included all of the relevant Crystal details in them.

Emerald is the last man out here, but Game Freak clearly has no intention of revisiting the Battle Frontier as a concept, and ORAS mostly covers the Rayquaza equation with the Delta Episode.

And with how Game Freak is now, I really don't trust them with remakes of Gen 4 anymore. They'll probably make the region much more linear than before, reduce the difficulty (not that the games were very hard to begin with), increase the story elements, remove Pokemon again, shoehorn in Dynamax, and ignore all the additions and improvements Platinum brought.

They have introduced new shit the last few gens (Mege Evos, X-Moves, Dynamax). You are right though about the rest, but maybe "Let's Go!" Was the start?

Game Freak was a mediocre developer who got lucky inventing the world's most popular franchise and instead of using that opportunity to grow and become better they have somehow become more lazy and less competent as time has gone on. And whenever they face criticisms they hide behind the excuse of them being just a small developer like that some how cuts it.

I genuinely enjoy Pokmon games, but I don't see myself ever buying another again until something changes.

Yeah, and further remakes/reimaginings will likely be in the same vein as Let's Go, which is not for everyone.

And not every new gimmick introduced has to be in every game afterwards. Hell, Sword/Shield dropped both Megas and Z Moves. I personally could do without Dynamax in future games.

Yeah, they were at their peak during Gens 3 thru 5, with Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, Black/White, and BW2 all being very strong games. The cracks started to form with X/Y, and things escalated from there until we got to Sword/Shield. And with those game breaking Switch sales records, I doubt Game Freak has much incentive to change since they would still sell millions regardless.

But I'm definitely feeling less enthusiastic about the series as of late; I can't even bring myself to finish Isle of Armor, since every time I feel I want to play it, I end up not doing so. It also didn't help that coming right off Xenoblade DE just makes the Sword/Shield world look small and bland in comparison.

I'm not sure what my future with the series is at this point.

Absolutely not. GF was pulling shit WAY before Lets Go.

Gen 2 was the last time GameFreak was really ambitious with a game; and that was just because a) they thought there wouldn't be a gen 3 at the time, and B) Iwata fixed their spaghetti code and bailed their asses out.

Gen 3, they straight up make a ton of pokemon unavailable without the purchase of three additional games. They remove the day/night cycle because they couldn't be assed. Admittedly they did a lot of under-the-hood work, and these cuts are relatively benign, but this was the start of the corner-cutting. And in every game since, they've cut more and more corners with every game. Introduce a feature, roll it back for no reason. That's the gamefreak way. Mega Evos? Here today, gone tomorrow. Seasons? Hi, bye. Battle frontier? nope, gone. Follow Pokemon? Talk about an on-again-off-again relationship. Difficulty modes? Throw them in in the most back assward way for one gen, then never again. Customizable pokeballs? Custom ball-throw animations? Kill em all. Hell, customizing trainers didn't even last all of gen 6 before they tried to roll it back.

Couple that with GFs obsession with dumbing down difficulty more and more (by their own admission, no less), and its easy to get the frustration
