You go to any poker site they would say it was a dumb move by the opponent, at best with 78 hes a 40% dog so putting in your money when you know youre going to be an underdog is a dumb move categorically. But because TC has a rep on this site we have to disagree with everything he say. I get it, thats just the way things work here
It wasn't a good move, but if they're up a lot, and dude's gotta go all in, maybe it's a screw it bet. TC could've been down to covering the blind, while other guy is on top. Chance to get rid of the weakest player in that situation? Either way, it worked

BUT, he won on that. You can keep letting it bother you, or get over it tbh. If you can't get over the fact that you can't always win, you're gonna have a really bad time. If an amateur getting lucky pissed you off, you really should rethink your hobby.
You went all in, meaning you were down. He called, maybe figuring he'll get rid of you if he gets lucky. Either way, if he knew the numbers were against him as you say and did it anyway, he's confident he can beat you. Sounds like you got taken

I dont know why you're so results oriented

No there's so little number of hands where he had a good chance to win and he had almost no chance in this hand

Not like he came from the future or rigged the deck...he was simply an idiot making an idiot move and got insanely lucky

Because that's where the money is. You may not like it, but he won. Since you went all in, he got rid of you from competing. In gambling, the results are what matter. It's a bad beat, but a win is a win

Thats where I'm telling you you are wrong. Poker is all about the process and longterm +ev (expected value). What he did was a MAJOR -ev move long term

More importantly he knew the numbers weren't on his side and still called

Did he though?

Sounds like he didn't know the numbers.

Or he has fuck you money. $40 isn't exactly a lot. And he did indeed fuck you with his money.

thats all fair. since he folded AJ to my $18 all in earlier i figured he knew the odds at least a bit, or wasn't that loose of a player

and i started with $40 (so that was my total loss) but i had $67 at the time...$67 for 7 8 off...? he's getting a very bad price to play that hand

Did it beat you? Yes. Would it work everytime? No. Does he do it all the time? I don't have that information.

He eliminated you, and clearly upset you. If getting a bad beat now and then bothers you to such a degree, you need to find new things. That's why it's called a bad beat. Because it is so unlikely. The odds went against you. A percentage that's not 100 carries a chance to lose. You'll likely win that situation more often than not, but here, you didn't

Why do you keep saying "eliminated"?! This was a cash game, not a tournament. I could have just bought back in. He doesn't need to "eliminate" me, there is no bonus for doing so

I'm going to bed, I'm just going to say the only thing that matters. You went in blind. If he had pocket aces he'd have won. He didn't, but it didn't matter. You don't know what he had. The better hand won, it doesn't matter how.
That's gambling, you can play your cards right in the situation and lose, which you did. The results are the only thing that counts. He won, you lost. If losing bothers you so much you have to justify why he "unfairly" beat you, you need to rethink your hobby because it'll happen again.

Lmao ill just chalk it up to your complete failure to understand poker (and life)....making +ev moves long term is all that matters. Calling with his hand was a -ev move. Good night

Shitty run out but the take away here should be that you generally shouldn't shove 150+ bbs (there is a typo I can't tell what they are) to steal 1.5bbs.

It's completely polarizing and puts way too much of your stack at risk for such little reward. Usually the only hands that call you have you crushed. If you are scared of losing towards the end of a session it's probably time to just fold and cash out.

Also, careful of overplaying jacks. Its a classic strong means weak mistake that can often be picked up on. If someone regularly opens to 3 or 4bbs and then all of a sudden they open to 6-8bbs it usually means they are scared of their own hand and don't want to play it post flop. Jacks, tens, and sometimes nines are hands that you see people do this with. Good players will call to play after the flop against that.
(good players won't call the all in with 78.)

You got a shitty result but can still improve your game from the process.

yeah, i overplayed it but figured it was a safe move at the end of the night 3 handed. this was the agreed upon last hand of the night at the table. it was about 84 BB

if it was earlier i def play jacks much safer

Lol, yeah, but getting used to losing when you get it in good is part of the game. It's not supposed to affect you, and is to be expected

It normally doesn't, but the fact it was the last hand of the night and he was such an under dog and how ridiculous the run out was did get to me

If he had AK and hit i wouldn't had been so nearly as upset

I just wanted the $1.60 on the table and to call it a night
