I read it in elementary school so out of curiosity I reread it. I realize that childrens literature overuses similes. It feels like if they removed every instance of a simile, itd feel like any other typical book.
Anyway, I found it incredibly touching. And I hadnt remembered the subplot about how Jesse wants to be an artist and does not receive approval from his dad. And then, Anyway, which should be the next childrens literature book I read: Sarah Plain and Tall Sounder Walk to Moons The View from Saturday --- Godel, Escher, Bach ... Copied to Clipboard!

This was one of my favourite movies as a kid, but I can say I basically have zero recollection of anything from the book. It might be worth reading again.
Where the Red Fern Grows is another one of those children's books you cry to, although I've heard that one really doesn't read as well as an adult. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I like the nostalgia of it, I guess (plus I was a pretty crummy reader back then so its fun seeing all the messages I missed in the books) the list I had posted included books I had once read in school --- Godel, Escher, Bach ...
