I don't understand why they didn't show the actual message. Seems like that would be a pretty important thing to actually put on film.

The IX crawl isn't awful, since it's at least consistent with the prior movies, but it's a prime example of "Tell instead of Show". Episodes I through VI all had the problem too though. Horrible consistency to call out just Episode IX for that.
With that said, Vader YEETing Palpatine into the hole is pretty funny. Like, it's not climatic. The amazing duel between Vader and Luke prior was climatic. The dialogue right before it was climatic. Throwing Palpatine into a hole is... fucking... lmao. Episode VI was filled with this kind of stuff goofy shit too. Good movie, but man, Lucas really had such a short directorial prime with Episode IV and... That's it. --- 'Cause you know that I have no fear, ain't gonna walk into the river and disappear. The fact that the opening crawl is LITERALLY tied in to GODDAMN FUCKING FORTNITE is enough to warrant a 0/10 for that whole movie and also one of the top 5 worst Star Wars things to ever happen.
