Both consoles are $499.99 usd but looks like Sony is unwilling to take as much of a hit on the exchange rate.

XSX is $599.99 cad
PS5 is $629.99 cad.

I'm honestly not surprised, there were a few PS4 games released that were more expensive digital than physical because of the exchange rate.

Weird. Same price in Australia and we usually get fucked hard by this, Nvidia being an example.

The controllers are like $89.99 too which is a $15 increase over the PS5 ones.

Yep. There was a big thing in Brazil years ago how it would be cheaper to buy a place ticket to America and buy a PS4 then it would be to just buy the PS4 in Brazil.

*laughs into PC*

Do you think PC parts don't get marked up in other regions or something?

No idea about Canada but NVIDIA whopped on an extra $70 for the 3070 compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X in Australia.

well that's ****. I mean, I was gonna get the cheaper version anyway, but still.

If anyone else is interested in the lower tiers...

PS5 disc-free 499 CAD
XSS 379 CAD

500$ was about the price I was expecting for the PS5, I'm a little disappointed its only the disc-free version. fun fact, the 379 CAD is the price of buying a brand new PS4 now, so I think XSS is going to do well here.

Weirdly enough in Australia it's the Xbox Series S that's overpriced.
Here it's
Xbox Series X/PS5: $750 AUD
PS5 DE: $599 AUD
Xbox Series S: $499 AUD

I wonder who makes these decisions.

Retailers who factor in the exchange rate and tariffs.

The retailers have nothing to do with it, the prices on consoles are set by Sony/Microsoft themselves.

The price of the XSX and PS5 in Australia are pretty much on par with the US price factoring in the exchange rate and taxes. Both consoles are cheaper in Canada than they are in the US (when it comes to the XSX it's a lot) factoring in the exchange rate, but it's weird that in one region Sony would maintain the price equivalency but in another they wouldn't.

Wow that is a nice deal on the exchange rate. Especially MS, yeah. Games are pretty much the same as the US. $90 when exchange rate would be like $92.
