Never from the same major strain twice (at least so far). All reinfection cases this year were caused by the original strain from Wuhan and then the mutated strain from Europe or vice versa. Unless there is a 3rd major mutation that antibodies or T cells do not recognize, it is almost impossible to be reinfected a second time in such a short period.

More like isolates which are non-functional mutations of a given strain. D614G and its isolates (the European mutation with the improved spike protein) is the only variant that could be considered a different strain from the original spotted in China.

i see. so two sets of antibodies should be enough to cover any version that's out there now, until and unless there's another significant mutation? and tbd whether those antibodies will persist (so we only need to be infected/immunized once) or not (so it'll be a yearly vaccine like for the flu)?
